The 324 from Nomos Glashutte's Orient collection consists of a robust caliber alpha with manual movements to make sure that the watch does not leave your side at crucial times. Hands-On - Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic - The World's Thinnest Mechanical Chronograph Watch - Baselworld 2019 (Specs & Price)
With no fewer than four world record for thinness under its belt, we thought that Bvlgari was going to settle down and enjoy its recognition as the ultimate master of ultra-thin… But we were wrong! Until now, the title for the thinnest chronograph watch (understand mechanical, of course) was in the hands of Piaget, with this 8.24mm thick watch. For Baselworld 2019, Bvlgari sets yet another world record – the fifth to be precise. Please welcome the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph, with a 6.90mm case and a movement of just 3.30mm, making it the thinnest chronograph in the world – and yes, it is automatic and it features a GMT Complication… No less!?Thinness, Bvlgari and ChronographBefore moving to the topic of the day, meaning the record for the world’s thinnest chronograph and this new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph, a quick reminder of what Bvlgari has done in the field of ultra-thin watchmaking might be useful.Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Trilogy: tourbi
Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 (Specs & Price)
Fifty years ago, on Christmas Eve 1968, Apollo 8 became the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Moon and the three astronauts on board the first men to witness the far, or dark side, of our celestial neighbour. To celebrate this encounter, in 2013 Omega dedicated an entire collection of black-themed Speedmasters known as the Dark Side of the Moon. During Baselworld 2018, Omega presented the latest crew member of this collection, the new Apollo 8. A hybrid of sorts, the Apollo 8 shares the black ceramic case of the Dark Side of the Moon collection but has jettisoned its automatic co-axial engine in favour of Omega's legendary calibre 1861, the manual-wound movement of the classic Moonwatch. With its dramatic skeletonised dial, the bridges and main plate reveal an extraordinary surface designed to recreate the rugged surface of the Moon. Coupled with the vibrant canary-yellow touches on the chronograph indications, for some unconditional Speedy purists, the Apollo 8 has resulted entirely
Baltic Aquascaphe Diver / Value Proposition Review (Specs & Price)
After successfully funding its first collection via Kickstarter, Baltic Watches has managed to stand the test of time and to survive this inaugural series of watches. Even better, the small concept became a brand and has started to expand its collection – and there are many more watches to come (but we can’t tell you yet…) Today, we look at what Etienne Malec has created as his second model, a great-looking, still accessible, no-nonsense tool dive watch with vintage inspiration; the Baltic Aquascaphe Diver.ConceptBaltic Watches is the brainchild of Etienne Malec, a young Frenchman who has inherited his father's passion for watches – something he shared with us already, some years ago. An avid collector, his father spent years putting together a collection of exceptional timepieces, some of which have inspired the designs of Baltic's first two models. Sadly though, Etienne's father passed away when Etienne was still quite young and so they were never able to trul
Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day - hands-on review (specs & price)
Chronoswiss has built its reputation around an easily recognizable design first and, most importantly, on its extensive (for over 30 years now) use of a specific display: the regulator. Quite old-school for some years, the brand has been revived recently and has started to offer stronger and more modern designs, for instance with the?Flying Regulator Open Gear or a Bit-Coin inspired watch. Today, the brand presents a new model with added complications: the?Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day.Basically, the recipe used for the creation of the?Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day is the same as the Open Gear: a mix of traditional?design codes with more modern features, an architectural construction of the dial, with raised parts and apparent mechanical parts and, of course, the use of the iconic and dear-to-the-brand regulator display. This has become the hallmark of the brand since its first regulator wristwatch in 1987 and this is clearly not about to change. Yet, while th
Value Proposition Mercer Airfoil Automatic Pilot Watch (Specs & Price)
Mercer Watch Co. is an American microbrand that I've been following for a couple of years now. I recently reviewed its?Lexington Chronograph and was impressed by the aesthetics and overall quality for the price. Although it has a Seagull ST1901 hand-wound movement from China, Mercer assembles, regulates and tests each one in-house and this particular movement has a solid reputation for reliability. A different concept, the Airfoil is its flagship but this time with a Swiss Sellita automatic running the show. It's a simple pilot watch that recently gained a vanilla dial alongside the original matte black face, and is an attractive, understated piece for just about any occasion. I usually consider something like the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Auto Day Date to be more of a pilot's watch, but the Airfoil's simplicity is also what I find appealing. Does it hold up in a very crowded and competitive field? Let's take a closer look at Mercer's bestseller with its new vanilla dial for 2018.BACKGROUND
