Introducing: The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon
With watch brands across the board riding the Chinese New Year wave, there are no prizes for guessing which of the twelve animals represented in the Chinese Zodiac will be in the limelight this year. Flaunting a rich burgundy-coloured dial – associated with good luck, celebrations and prosperity in Asia – the brand has adopted the same prudent approach as last year’s celebratory Chinese New Year Portugieser model and hidden the mascot from prying eyes.Last year, which starred the Year of the Rabbit, IWC produced a special version of its Portugieser Automatic time-only model with a burgundy dial with gold-plated appliques and a rabbit engraved on the rotor. Buying Guide - 5 Recently Launched Diving Chronographs
In addition to classic models, with a clearly-defined style and set of functionalities, watchmakers also love to mix genres. What about a perpetual calendar pilot’s watch? Or a sports skeleton timepiece? There’s another combination that feels, at first, a bit unusual but that, however, became more and more popular over the years, a watch combining the resistance and robustness of a diving instrument with the practicality of a chronograph. Diving chronographs were first popularized in the mid-1960s by Aquastar, soon followed by Omega with the iconic Seamaster Automatic 120m Chronograph “Big Blue”. Referring to the full integration of Montblanc and Minerva, the brand will be “reworking all the product lines from a Minerva approach”.Focusing on two product lines, the Heritage Collection inspired by Minverva chronographs from the 1940s and 1950s, and the 1858 collection, these are the highlights Baretzki shares with us: Designed to capture the spirit of Minverva’s exploration?watches of the 1920s and 1930s, the 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition features a winning combination of a 42mm bronze case and a khaki dial.
