After we’ve taken a closer look at five very cool watches that put the Earth on your wrist one way or another just last week, this time around we move over to our nearest neighbour, the Moon. This satellite of our beautiful planet has been there forever and has guided us through time on our explorations of our home planet. Instrumental in the early days of telling time, the moon has always been a major influence on watchmaking. So it makes perfect sense to compile a Buying Guide of what we think are some of the most distinct styles of moon phase watches you can get, from the very comical to the superbly complex and everything in between. So without further ado, let’s get straight into the details! The Complex One – HYT Moon RunnerWith HYT you’re never short on horological spectacle, but the complex HYT Moon Runner takes things up a notch or two. Already a stand-out watch due to the meca-fluidic retrograde hour display, the Moon Runner adds several complications t
Hands-On - Norqain Independence 20 Kenissi Manufacture Movement
Norqain is a young watch brand, and even though it launched only 2 years ago, it is already well-established and has built a comprehensive collection of sports/adventure watches. Well-executed and nicely designed models are proposed, all powered by mechanical movements (until now supplied by Sellita). Today, the brand moves one step further in its quest for independence, with a new watch suitably named Independence 20, and featuring for the first time a manufacture movement by Kenissi. This new era for Norqain doesn’t come as a surprise, since we already announced in early 2020 that the brand signed a partnership with Kenissi for delivery of higher-end movements. A recently created company, Kenissi is often presented as the industrial arm of Tudor. This movement manufacturer offers a range of robust, high-performance calibres – 3-hand, time-and-date and GMT. It was created to produce movements for 's sister company and for Breitling. In 2019, Chanel announced it had taken a
Hands-On Bell & Ross BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph (Specs & Price)
Bell & Ross has been knocking them out of the park lately, with several vintage-inspired watches that really hit the spot, like the new Vintage Collection and some derivatives, such as the Vintage V2-92 & V2-94 Garde-Cotes and the commemorative BR126 Renault Sport 40th Anniversary. Today, however, we're shifting gears and getting hands on with one of the brand's more futuristic-looking models; the BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph, a softer and more “monochrome” version of the bold?chronograph we already tested here.Part of the French brand's extensive Instrument collection, the BR-X1 series made its debut three years ago with the intention of bringing the fight to the likes of the Hublot King Power and the Audermars Piguet Royal Oak. Given the series now boasts 17 different models – including the exceptional BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon Monopusher – I think it's safe to assume that it has performed this mission quite well. it is bold, it is very technica
Vacheron Constantin and the Geneva Seal - Monochrome Watches
In the world of watches and especially the world of Haute Horlogerie, there are several quality signs. The COSC chronometer test the most well known and many timepieces from many brands are certified by the?Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. Another proof of quality, one that goes much further than ‘just’ the timepiece’s accuracy, is the Hallmark of Geneva or also referred to as Geneva Seal. As of June 2013 all Vacheron Constantin timepieces bearing this seal of quality will comply with the newest standards. In two videos Vacheron Constantin explains the Geneva Seal’s history and the impact on the production of watches of this Genevan brand.?The Geneva Seal was set up on November 6, 1886. This was done on request of the Societe des Horloger, who saw the international reputation of Genevan watches being compromised by both Swiss and foreign counterfeiters. The main task was to protect the reputation of the name “Geneva” which was inscribed
Vintage beauty - Vacheron Constantin American 1921 - Monochrome Watches
When Vacheron Constantin launched the Historique American 1921, information about it’s ancestor was made available as well. With all the information to be found, the original watches are rare, very, very rare! So imagine how surprised I was to get an email from an owner who’s inherited a vintage American 1921 and is looking to sell it. This specific ‘American 1921’ was the first Vacheron to bear this name and was limited to 10 pieces. It was also the first with it’s crown at the 2 o’clock position, or as collectors call it a ‘crown right’ model. The last one of these ‘right crown’ models sold for 61,000 CHF at the Antiquorum ‘Quarter Millenium of Vacheron Constantin‘ auction in 2005.
