Buying Guide - Highlights From The Geneva Watch Days 2020
With the cancellation of Baselworld and Watches & Wonders, the Geneva Watch Days event was one of the very few multi-brand watch events of the year. Seventeen brands? showcased their novelties between August 26 and August 29 in the “capital of luxury watchmaking”. The event was decentralised as each brand was presenting novelties in their individual showrooms. We masked up and ventured to Geneva to get a long-awaited horological fix! Here are some of our highlight watches.Ferdinand Berthoud Chronometre FB 2REFerdinand Berthoud's first-round model will be one of the watches of the year. Although the brand's focus remains the same – precision chronometry – the second Berthoud collection comes with a new case and a new calibre. The Chronometre FB 2RE picks up the shape of Berthoud marine clocks and their modular construction. It is based on a cylindrical container fitted with short, tapering lugs secured to the case by stylised bolts. Time is displayed on a tra
VIDEO - The Timelessness of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia collection by Anthony de Haas and Bruno Moinard - Monochrome Watches
A great looking simple dress watch has a certain “je ne sais quoi”. Of course there’s is only so much you can do as a designer, at least that what most laymen think. And also to us there are some very simple 2, or 3-hand watches that are just… perfect. The size, the shape of the case, that small bevel on the lugs, and that lovely straight-brushed case-band, or any other detail that can just hit the right note. But how difficult is it to find that perfect balance when designing a watch, or anything actually. We set out and asked the experts, Anthony de Haas, A. Lange & Sohne’s director product development, and Bruno Moinard, acclaimed architect and designer. What is timelessness, and how to translate this, in all subtleness, into a design that will remain appealing for decades, or even centuries. Here’s what they told us about this ‘elusive’ property called timelessness.Let me first briefly introduce both gentlemen. Anthony de Haas, pr
IWC Big Pilots Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Ceratanium Review
With roots that go back to the 1940s and, more importantly, a production history that started in the mid-1990s, IWC‘s Pilot’s Watch collection is one of the brand’s most established ranges, and it comprises almost all complications and movements that the brand has managed to create over the years. Of course, Kurt Klaus’ perpetual calendar is no exception to the rule, and the Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar has been seen, even recently, in multiple editions, such as the new Racing Green or the blue-on-steel model of the permanent collection. But today, it’s a TOP GUN watch that is released, which means tactical black colour scheme. But what’s more interesting here is not the look, but the materials, as we’re looking at the brand’s first watch entirely made of Ceratanium, case AND bracelet. Meet the new IWC Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Ceratanium IW503604.?If you think a bit… The overall idea behind this watch cou
Richard Mille RM 61-01 Yohan Blake Limited Edition - Hands-on with live photos & price - Monochrome-Watches
SIHH 2015 was a ladies year for Richard Mille. The brand introduced one of the most impressive watches for women ever seen, the Richard Mille RM 19-02 Tourbillon Fleur with a flying tourbillon hidden in a flower – and that appears?every 5 minutes. However, in the crowd of flowers, diamonds and poetic feelings, there was another novelty at the SIHH that is more our material here, a new limited edition of Yohan Blakes’ watch, the full black edition of the?Richard Mille RM 61-01, a.k.a. ‘Baby Blake‘.Richard Mille is a real gentleman with its ambassadors. Not only he’s giving them watches but he mainly creates watches in limited editions for and with them. If some are only featuring some design clues, like the?Richard Mille RM 57-01 Tourbillon Phoenix and Dragon created for Jackie Chan, most of these special watches are made with a unique purpose, being the best possible ally of the ambassadors. Take a look at some of them:The RM 36-01 with mechanical G-force
Laurent Lecamp, Montblanc's new Watch Division Director on Building a Brand and Being an Entrepreneur - Monochrome Watches
Today we’re talking to Laurent Lecamp, the new director of Montblanc’s watch division. He takes over from Davide Cerrato, who held this position for the past five years. We’ve had Davide Cerrato in front of our camera several times in these past years, explaining the intricate beauty of Montblanc’s ExoTourbillon and the beauty of hand-finishing at the maison’s ateliers in Villeret. Of course we were curious to hear from Mr Laurent Lecamp what his plans for Montblanc’s watch division are, but also why his name already rings a bell… hint: Indie brand Cyrus. The name Laurent Lecamp may sound familiar, to those who know the independent watch brand Cyrus. That’s at least how I met Laurent, probably some ten years ago at Salon Belles Montres in Paris, when he had just started his adventure in the world of watches. Laurent founded Cyrus together with his cousin, and while the brand might still be a niche player, like most Indie brands, it has bee
