Phillips Sells the Unique Steel Lange 1815 ¡®Homage To Walter Lange for CHF 852,500 - A New Record for a Lange Wristwatch at Auction - Monochrome Watches
While the Daytona Ultimatum auction and the rest of the GWA7 – Geneva Watch Auction 7 by Phillips Watches – brought several impressive results (including a CHF 5M hammer price for the ‘Unicorn’ white gold Daytona), another properly interesting result should be credited to A. Lange & Sohne, with the unique?1815 Homage To Walter Lange' in steel with black enamel dial?hammered for CHF 852,500 (incl. buyer’s premium). And yes, it’s a new record for a Lange wristwatch at auction, and yes proceeds will be given to a charity. The CHF 852,500 obtained by Phillips Watches / Aurel Bacs and A. Lange & Sohne Is impressive indeed and sets a new world record for a Lange wristwatch at an auction – even if there were previous watches in Lange’s collection priced above that (the Grande Complication and its 2 million price tag for instance). The New Bulgari Octo l'Originale Solotempo in full Titanium - Monochrome Watches
Bulgari made quite an impact last year when it unveiled its record-breaking, ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Automatic. In total, the sand-blasted titanium case measured just 5.15mm thick, an incredible achievement and one that in my opinion, looks absolutely superb on the wrist. Others, however, found it either too thin or too expensive. Fortunately for those detractors, Bulgari's new Octo l’Originale Solotempo Titanium offers a very similar aesthetic, in a slightly thicker case and at a more wallet-friendly price.Bulgari is introducing several new models into its popular Octo collection this year, and we've already gotten hands-on with two of them; the Octo l'Originale Velocissimo chronograph in full titanium and the Octo Tourbillon Sapphire in Black DLC. The third model we are looking at is the Solotempo, a stylish three-hander with date presented in the brand's trademark multi-layer octagonal case with 110 facets. News: Frederic Arnault Named CEO of LVMH Watches, Julien Tornare CEO of TAG Heuer
For some months now, we’ve heard and seen evidence that things were about to change at LVMH, a reshuffling strategy that industry insiders love to call the musical chairs of management. Things are now official as Julien Tornare, ex-CEO of Zenith, becomes CEO of TAG Heuer. He’s replaced in this role by Benoit de Clerck, who previously was COO of?Panerai, a branch of LVMH’s competitor, the Richemont Group. However, while many insiders expected Frederic Arnault, the son of the Group’s owner Bernard Arnault and ex-CEO of TAG Heuer, to take the lead at Bulgari, things appear different. Instead, he’ll take the position of CEO of LVMH Watches (a new role), overseeing Hublot, TAG Heuer and Zenith.?Frederic Arnault, ex-CEO of TAG Heuer, now appointed to a newly-created role, CEO of LVMH Watches29-year-old Frederic Arnault, who joined TAG Heuer in 2018 as Head of Strategy, later to become CEO of the company in 2020, has just been promoted to a different position, th
Hands-on with the very original De Rijke & Co x Miffy Special Edition
The use of comic book characters or cartoon personalities in watchmaking isn’t new. However, we’ve recently seen a successful?revival of the classical Character Watches. Watches incorporating Mickey Mouse, Snoopy or Popeye have become very popular lately, and we can surely expect more to come in the future. Small-time Dutch independent watchmaker De Rijke & Co. now enters this humorous field of watchmaking with something very, very cool: Nijntje, or “Miffy” for non-Dutch people. This iconic little rabbit created by Dick Bruna is known the world over and now finds its way into a mechanical watch for the very first time. And we have the exclusive world premiere of this very fun and limited De Rijke & Co. x Miffy Moonphase.Dick Bruna & Nijntje/MiffyTo explain who or what Miffy is – for those who have no clue or need their memories refreshed – Miffy is a small rabbit-like character developed by Dick Bruna, perhaps the most famous Dutch graphi
Hands-On - Delma Cayman Worldtimer Automatic (Specs & Price)
Although Delma isn't the most familiar brand, it's one we've covered several times on MONOCHROME because of its excellent quality/price ratio. The recent vintage-inspired Continental Chronographs are solid examples, offering well-executed and diverse models for under EUR 3,000. This latest Cayman Worldtimer Automatic follows the simpler Cayman Automatic diver line with an added GMT hand and world cities on the external rotating bezel. Not a true world timer from the likes of Vacheron Constantin or Patek Philippe (with internal rotating 24-hour ring), but it gets the job done for a fraction of the price.BACKGROUNDDelma isn't a relatively new microbrand or the like (if you're unfamiliar with the brand), but an almost century-old, independent Swiss watchmaker that's family owned. It's known for sporty dive watches and chronographs with dress and ladies’ models as well. The new Cayman Worldtimer is a GMT watch with 24 world cities engraved on a rotating bezel, requiring a quick manua
