Hands-On Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Chronograph Black Ceramic 26399NR
For autumn 2022, Audemars Piguet will be introducing a dash of coloured ceramic to some of the more complicated watches, including members of its Code 11.59 collection. Aware of the fact that there are few marriages in the watch world sexier than pink gold and black ceramic, AP has chosen this provocative dress code for its complex Code 11.59 Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph. More than just a two-tone case, which AP has already toyed with in the past, this model takes the black and pink gold colour scheme all the way into the heart of the skeletonised movement. We met the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph a year ago in a white gold case with blue lacquered details on the flange and chronograph counters. This year's model shares identical specifications but sails in with a devastatingly attractive combination of pink gold and black ceramic. Aware of the effect that pink gold holds to highlight certain features and black ceramic to attenuate others, the large deep case of

VIDEO - The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Trilogy Explained - Monochrome Watches
For quite some decades, the concept behind ultra-thin watches was focussed almost exclusively on classic, elegant and sleek designs. However, Bulgari had something else in mind. Why not house these ultra-thin movements inside a collection of modern and bold watches, inspired by the Italian sense for design, or in other words the icon that is the Octo? This is what the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Trilogy is: an iconic design with record-breaking movements – with the thinnest tourbillon movement, the thinnest minute repeater watch and the thinnest automatic movement ever (and certainly more to come) And to us, this achievement deserves a proper, in-depth video. With an expertise in watchmaking gained through the production of in-house movements and, mainly, the acquisition a few years ago of two Haute-Horlogerie manufactures (Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta), Bulgari started developing a series of ultra-thin movements. The first one sounded like a blast in the watchmaking world: the thinnes
Business - Analysis of the Swiss watchmaking industry in 2014 - Monochrome-Watches
The?Swiss watchmaking industry is known to be a dream factory. If you’re a collector and a frequent reader of Monochrome-Watches, you certainly know what we mean by that. However, Swiss manufactures are also (actually mainly) businesses, with a unique goal: selling watches, achieving a worldwide recognition and creating value. In order to understand a bit more about this industry that we too often view only from the product side, here are some interesting figures about the year 2014.Let’s start immediately with the impressive numbers. While the production numbers of Swiss-made watches is almost insignificant as part of the entire annual watch production (which includes all vast numbers of cheap quartz watches produced in China), the value created by the Swiss manufactures is imposing. As the graph shows, Switzerland only produces one watch against?fifty?produced in the entire world. When you consider those numbers, just think that this small country is also responsible of m
Hands-On: The Simple Yet Characterful MeisterSinger Neo Collection
For obvious reasons, the watch world tends to glorify complexity and the accumulation of functions into a single watch. We, at MONOCHROME, are no better than the rest of the crowd and we can spend days contemplating a Grande Complication watch, or a timepiece with a novel, ultra-complex escapment. However, we also tend to forget the primary function of a watch; indicating the time. Mastering complexity can be complex. But so does simplicity. The less is more approach has long been a difficult exercise, where making a watch interesting and characterful by striping down everything unnecessary is not often convincing. With its updated Neo Collection, German brand MeisterSinger has decided to focus on the essential, to the point where not even the minute hand makes sense. Is it enough to be appealing? Let's check it out.?The brand launched by Manfred Brassler in 2001, MeisterSinger, has since its early days focussed on a highly specific display, its signature “decomplication” i
