First Look: The More Compact Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 42mm
Launched in 2016, the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 combines the best of Hublot: modern materials, an edgy skeleton movement with a 10-day power reserve – one of the most important calibres from the brand with the Unico Chronograph – and versatility with the practical one-click interchangeable strap system. With the current trend for smaller watches, we now get a more compact and ergonomic version of the model at 42mm versus 45mm. This new version launches in three different materials; King Gold, titanium and frosted carbon.Left: the new 42mm edition – Right: The classic 45mm editionThis new version of the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 retains the inherently familiar silhouette of the model but with more compact dimensions at 42mm x 13.9mm versus 45mm x 15.8mm making for a much more wearable iteration of the concept. It launches in three different materials with matt King Gold and titanium versions and a new lightweight, frosted carbon version. The water resistance is still rated
The Collector's Series - Scott and His Unusual Behrens B023
Forget about the hype, go your own way… Look beyond the mainstream, seek new brands, look for the unusual and go for what you truly love! This is how you could summarize this new instalment of our collector’s interviews. Today we meet with Scott (29), a collector from Seattle, Washington in the USA. And he has a love for unusual, weird watches, preferably from brands that are not made the usual suspects. The model he highlights in today's Collector's Series is a Behrens B023, a brand he had never even heard of before a few months ago! It was the combination of design and intricate mechanics that made him fall for the brand. The reasonable pricing was a plus.Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – Do you remember where and when you first came across this brand?Scott – A few months ago I was scrolling through random watch articles at home (as you do)?and I somehow came across the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie’s site. All the usual suspects were?there, brands like Bovet,
Breguet Classique Chronometrie 7727 // Review, Specs, Price
When you think about Breguet, you probably picture a classic watch with elegant proportions, a guilloche dial and a beautifully executed movement. This is partially true, but there’s more to be said about the brand. Certainly, it is one of (if not the) most historically important brands, mainly because its founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet, is behind most of the innovations of the 18th/19th century, and most of them are still in use today. As a tribute to this glorious and rich past, the brand still retains its spirit of innovation beautifully demonstrated with this Breguet Classique Chronometrie 7727. Not a new watch, but one we wanted to explore again.Breguet, the innovatorWe’ve said it in the past and we’ll say it again: Abraham-Louis Breguet (10 January 1747 – 17 September 1823) is arguably the most important watchmaker of all times. Period. His influence on watchmaking, on chronometry and on anything related to the measurement of time is, still today, a tangib
Jenny Watches may be a Brand youve Never Heard of, but it's left a Significant Mark on Dive Watch History - Monochrome Watches
We've covered many Doxa SUB dive watches over the years, including the Limited Edition Doxa Mission 31 SUB Professional and Doxa SUB 300 Searambler Silver Lung' Reissue. Founded in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland by Georges Ducommun, Doxa has a storied history that started with an 8-day watch movement in 1908 for car and plane dashboards. However, it was the Doxa Sub, introduced in 1966, that led to the company's current reputation as a dive watch specialist. Doxa, however, has a sister brand, JENNY Watches (pronounced as yen-ny), that produced dive watches from day one. Let's take a closer look at Jenny Watches, the relatively unknown brand that beat all of the major players to 1,000 metres of depth over 50 years ago.Old vs. new – The modern Jenny Caribbean 300 and the vintage Jenny Caribbean 700.Established in 1963 as JENNY & Cie S.A. in Lengnau, Switzerland (by Paul G. Jenny, son of original company founder Gustav Jenny), it was the first brand to produce a 1,000-metre water
Review: Is The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar 5261R Really A Women's Watch?
During Watches & Wonders 2023, Patek Philippe unveiled a 39.9mm rose gold Aquanaut Luce Ref. 5261R with its patented annual calendar mechanism. Marking the first Aquanaut fitted with an annual calendar complication, Patek’s press material was adamant in positioning the watch as an Aquanaut Luce, the ladies’ section of the Aquanaut collection. A far cry from some of the brand’s more feminine watches with petite dimensions, pastel colours and diamonds, today I’ll explain why I think this Aquanaut Luce 5261R is a particularly attractive watch for women with a taste for large sporty watches with horological content, but also why it would be a huge mistake to overlook its appeal to men.Patek’s womenPatek Philippe is generally regarded as Switzerland’s finest purveyor of men’s watches and a precursor in combining complications. But this sentence is not entirely accurate: Patek Philippe is Switzerland’s finest producer of men’s and wom
