Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT for Revolution & The Rake - Monochrome Watches
2019 marked the year that the world's thinnest chronograph title passed from the hands of one horological master to another. Italian watchmaker Bvlgari had many firsts under its belt up until last year, yet the slimmest chronograph was not one of them. Piaget took that title in 2015 and held onto it right up until the release of the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph in 2019 with its 6.90mm case. Now, the new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT for Revolution & The Rake follows in the footsteps of last year's Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT, but with a couple of updates in the form of its luminous dial and an additional tachymeter scale. The timepiece is created exclusively for online luxury watch magazine Revolution and luxury e-commerce menswear company The Rake.Bvlgari first considered itself a serious contender in thin watch manufacture back in 2014. The Roman watchmaker began competing for ultra-thin complications with the 5mm thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, followed by the
The New Ikepod Megapod With A One-Minute Hourglass
Ikepod is a preeminent figure in unconventional and often contentious design-focused watchmaking icons. Revered by collectors and enthusiasts alike, the brand, founded in 1994 by designer Marc Newson and entrepreneur Oliver Ike, has left an indelible mark on the watchmaking scene. Despite its global success, Ikepod faced a challenging period, with production coming to a halt in 2012. Jean-Marc Pontroue was appointed CEO of Panerai in 2016, invigorating the brand with new energy. Change was needed but with a brand like Panerai, whose fame is based on a unique concept (1930s to 1950s military dive watches), evolution can be the enemy. We took the opportunity of the launch of the Panerai Luminor Marina Titanio/DLC Bucherer BLUE in Zurich to sit down with Mr Pontroue and talk about his first 18 months at the head of the brand, his partnership with Bucherer, and what to expect for 2020.“The Luminor was created in 1950… The 70th anniversary of Luminor will be our major theme (for 2020)”Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – Managing Panerai is one of the most interesting but most difficult challenges for a CEO in the industry!
