Pre-SIHH 2017 - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold 37mm (and why, as a man, I really like it) - Monochrome Watches
Yes, this watch is advertised as a ladies’ watch. Yes, it does celebrate 40 years of Royal Oak for ladies (as the first one was introduced in 1976 and?designed by Jacqueline Dimier). But, on the other hand, this watch has everything of?the iconic 1972 Jumbo and the current 41mm men’s version, just in a smaller 37mm case – ?which isn’t that small in reality. It has the iconic Genta-look, it has the hand-guilloche dial, it has an in-house automatic movement and, that’s the novelty here, it comes with a?superb surface finishing, named gold hammering or frosting, and that is really appealing to us. What to know about the Dominique Renaud DR01 Twelve First, a highly innovative concept with brand new escapement - Monochrome Watches
Dominique Renaud might not be the most famous name, at least for a large audience. However, passionate insiders have known him for decades, as being the co-founder of Renaud & Papi (now owned by Audemars Piguet and known as APRP). After almost 15 years of retirement, Dominique Renaud came back last year in the light; announcing he was to be part of HYT, as technical consultant. And now, he's back, on its own, with a revolutionary concept watch, mixing highly innovative escapement type, energy efficiency and optimal accuracy. The watch is called the?Dominique Renaud DR01 Twelve First and here what we already know about it.First of all, let’s put?the debate about design (shape of the case and overall look of the?Dominique Renaud DR01) aside, for a simple reason: the 12 first watches that will be manufactured are entirely customizable, meaning that probably none will look the same. This watch is a concept, a technical experimentation rather than being a watch meant to tell time
Beyond the hour hand, other ways to display the time - Monochrome Watches
The circular motion of hands has been widely adopted for the use of displaying time for centuries. No doubt it was first inspired by the movement of sundials' shadow. Like these, early mechanical clocks showed only hours, before the invention of the minute hand. There are however a number of other ways to indicate the hours in mechanical wristwatches. These alternatives offer endless possibilities for watchmakers to express their creativity, with different time displays often involving complex mechanical developments, which in turn opens up a world of bold unorthodox designs capable of exploring time indication beyond the hour hand This?installment of A?Technical Perspective will look at the other ways to display the time.Audemars Piguet pocket and wristwatch with jumping hour – 1921 Ad - Scroll to continue with article Jumping or wandering hoursInstead of
Hands-On: The Angelus x Massena LAB Chronographe Medical With Stunning Movement
While Angelus is part of the well-respected independent watchmakers around, and a brand with a very rich history, it took a modern and bold direction when it was revived a few years ago next to sister-company Arnold & Son. It’s a deliberate choice, but some fans of the name Angelus and of its superb vintage chronographs were slightly puzzled. Well, things are changing, with the return of classic chronographs and traditional hand-wound movements. And to inaugurate this new collection named La Fabrique, the brand has teamed up with design studio Massena LAB, who has created a re-edition of a stunning vintage doctor’s watch, which is now powered by an internally-produced movement (and what a movement indeed…) Let’s have a closer look at the new Angelus x Massena LAB Chronographe Medical. If you look at the current collection of Angelus, it surely doesn’t reflect what the brand has done in the past. There was a choice not to create vintage re-editions, but
