Just Because: The Battle for the World's Thinnest Watches (Incl. Video)
Some of the standout highlights of the 2024 Watch Week in Geneva undoubtedly revolved around ultra-thin watches. Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC now reigns as the world's thinnest mechanical wristwatch, boasting an astonishing 1.70mm profile. Meanwhile, Piaget clinched the record for the thinnest tourbillon ever with its Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, measuring a mere 2mm! We are undoubtedly living in a golden age of the ultra-thin watch, with records for ultra-thin watches being beaten one after the other as timepieces materialise with a thinness that would have been literally unimaginable a few years ago. Let’s delve into some of the most notable advancements in this field.Piaget can rightly be considered the precursor and historical specialist of ultra-thin watches. From the 9P and 12P presented in the 1950s to the legendary 20P and 25P, these record-thin yet delicate movements were made with Jean Lassale in the mid-1970s. The 20P movement was a staggering 1.
Hands-On with the Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback (Live photos & pricing) - Monochrome Watches
This year at the?Baselworld?watch fair,?Blancpain presented a chronograph version of its Bathyscaphe, the clean and vintage inspired version of the Fifty Fathoms. A very seductive dive watch available in full black ceramic or in?stainless steel, now?proposed with a flyback chronograph caliber. And the main point of this watch is here: its new hi-beat in-house movement, calibre?F385. Let’s see why.?The Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback comes with a robust 43 mm case that is water resistant?up to 300 meters, even when using the chronograph with the pushers. It is available in two flavours: brushed black ceramic or brushed stainless steel. The design, similar to the?version without chronograph, is very clean with straight and thin lugs and masculine enough to create?a tool-watch look. The two versions features a unidirectional rotating black bezel made with?LiquidMetal (hey, isn’t that exclusive to Omega?) – a ceramic ring filed with liquid metal for?the numbers and markin
Introducing The Tudor Pelagos FXD And Pelagos FXD Chrono Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition
In 2022, watchmaker Tudor unveiled its partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing, a contender in the most competitive yacht race in history, the America’s Cup. This was the first time Tudor ventured into the world of competitive yacht racing. But as you know, the brand doesn’t just form partnerships for the sake of advertising. There are, very often, some watches involved. And the result of the collaboration between Tudor and Alinghi is launched today, with a pair of new Pelagos FXD models, including – for the first time – a chronograph fitted into a fixed strap-bars case. Combining a high-tech carbon composite with titanium and stainless steel, just like on an AC75 (America's Cup 75) hydrofoil racing yacht, let’s have a closer look at the new Tudor Pelagos FXD And Pelagos FXD Chrono “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition”.The Tudor Pelagos FXD is a rather special watch in the brand’s collection. It was first unveiled in late 2021 and built to a
Introducing TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma with Lab-Grown Diamonds
With the new Carrera Plasma, TAG Heuer enters the sector of lab-grown diamonds. Chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds, their lab-grown siblings are not new but these have been rarely used in the luxury watch industry. TAG Heuer sees a bright future for the technology that has made crucial advances in recent years. In particular, it offers unique design possibilities that the brand is exploring with this unexpected and quite spectacular take on the Carrera.Entering the sector of lab-grown diamonds, the TAG Heuer focus has been to explore new design possibilities to make a watch truly unique. Introducing 2021 TAG Heuer Carrera 3 Hands Collection - Hands-On, Price
The Carrera, like other collections by Heuer/TAG Heuer, is named after a prolific motorsport event or venue. Legendary names like Monaco, Monza, Silverstone, or Formula 1. All strong names inspired by the world of motorsports. The TAG Heuer Carrera, of course, takes its names from the Carrera Panamericana, a gruelling border-to-border road-racing event held in Mexico from 1950 to 1954. TAG Heuer launched the Carrera collection in 1963 and nowadays labels it “born on the racetrack”, something very fitting with the brand's identity. In 2021, almost 60 years after first debuting the name, the collection is alive and well, with the brand introducing three new models – Date, Day-Date and Twin-Time Date – making the 2021 TAG Heuer Carrera 3 Hands Collection. The origins of CarreraThe history of the “Carrera” name as used by Heuer pre-dates the launch of the Heuer Carrera collection by a full decade, however. In 1953 Heuer produced the 404 series watch, dedi
