Video - The Bvlgari Serpenti - One of the Most Iconic Ladies Watches Ever Created
In the world of watches, we often use the word “icon”. No need to name those watches, you probably know them as well as we do. But are you sure? When it comes to such emblematic pieces, the vast majority are men’s creations. But what about ladies’ watches? While today the Octo is the main topic of discussion when it comes to Bvlgari, there is another watch that deserves attention, a watch with an immense historical background, a watch that is THE emblematic piece of the Roma-based brand and a watch with a design that is a true work of art: the Bvlgari Serpenti.?In this in-depth video (which can be viewed at the top of this article), we wanted to revisit what is unequivocally one of the most iconic ladies’ watches (if not the most) ever created. However, since we, at MONOCHROME, are not ladies’ watch specialists, we asked former TV-host and Italian actress, Giorgia Surina, to help us understand what makes the Bvlgari Serpenti such an emblematic piece.
Introducing The Zenith Defy Skyline Tourbillon (With High-Frequency Regulator)
Zenith’s Defy family is represented by seven sub-collections, including the recent Defy Skyline range. The name of the collection dates to Zenith’s 1902 line of robust pocket watches bearing the name ‘Defi’ only to pop up again in 1969 to distinguish the toughest member of the first El Primero references. For the Defy Skyline collection, Zenith borrowed specific design cues from the 1969 model but toned them down to produce a contender in the luxury sports watch segment without excess vintage overload. The two new Defy Skyline models are fitted with a high-frequency tourbillon movement securely contained in a robust and sporty 41mm Defy case, ensuring the complication can be enjoyed daily and in practically any situation. As a more subtle and contemporary interpretation of its 1969 ancestor, the 41mm Defy Skyline Tourbillon flaunts an octagonal case but has replaced the tetradecagonal (14-sided) bezel with a 12-sided one. Decorated with vertical brushed surfaces
Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF Titanium - Hands-On, Price
The luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet is all the rage at the moment. The Alpine Eagle, Chopard's take on the genre, is a modern, state-of-the-art reinterpretation of the 1980s Saint-Moritz. Unveiled two years ago, the model is now released in a 250-piece limited edition powered by a high-tech 8Hz high-frequency automatic movement. Here's the Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF in Titanium. While most mechanical wristwatches usually tick between 2.5Hz and 4Hz, high-frequency movements ticking at 5Hz and over are widely considered to improve the precision and stability of movements (even if, naturally, precision and stability are not solely related to frequency). Chopard has been conducting research in the field for years. The brand released its first experimental watch ticking at an impressive 8Hz as early as 2012 with the L.U.C 8HF powered by the L.U.C 01.06-L calibre. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Interview - Peter Speake-Marin on Making Watches, Developing Movements and his Latest Venture, the Naked Watchmaker
I can clearly remember my very first Baselworld and meeting Peter Speake-Marin. I didn’t know the “industry” as well as I know it today and I had no real conception of the entire industry and where Peter fit in. Today, some ten years later, I’m still in touch with Peter and I feel honoured to call him a friend. Over this past decade, I’ve followed Peter’s wanderings through the industry, and since Peter recently started a new venture (the Naked Watchmaker) I wanted to give you an overview of who Mr?Peter Speake-Marin actually is. Soon, we’ll focus on him deconstructing movements, but first, an interview with the man himself.MONO: Peter, can you tell us about your background in the industry. S.U.F. Helsinki Vetehinen By Sarpaneva Dive Watch Review (Specs & Price)
Rough, cold, with a unique character and surprisingly fascinating… that is how I would describe the?contrasting country that is Finland. Funnily enough, it’s also how I would describe?the new?S.U.F. Helsinki Vetehinen, the brand's first dive watch. A Finnish watch made by Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva, who loves to play?with the elements of unique design DNA he has developed,?transposing and combining them in his little?universe, resulting in a watch that simply looks and feels different, in a very good way. What is S.U.F. Helsinki? Basically, it stands for?SarpanevaUhrenFabrik, a brand that is said to be “Finland, through and through“. What you might have spotted of course is the name Sarpaneva, one of the most productive members of the “independent watchmakers” scene. With S.U.F., Stepan wanted to explore?different horizons, with sporty and more accessible watches – relatively simple sports watches, with out-sourced movements, prices sta
