Introducing A Quartet Of Gemset Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronographs in 37mm
To mark the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak in 1993, Audemars Piguet launched a beefier, more virile, ultra-robust version known as the Royal Oak Offshore. With its gigantic – at that time – 42mm diameter and bold combinations of materials, the Royal Oak Offshore was referred to as “The Beast”. Over the years, the Royal Oak Offshore has adapted to unisex market trends and is now offered in a wide range of sizes. The latest dispatch is four 37mm Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronographs attracting the limelight thanks to their vibrant coloured gemstone or icy white diamond-set bezels. Conforming to the recent overhaul of the family, the quartet of chronographs also flaunt a new Lady Tapisserie motif and subtle design tweaks on the dial. The Royal Oak Offshore’s 30th birthday is still in full swing, following in the wake of anniversary pieces like the sleek black ceramic and gold JPS ROO chronograph, the complex ROO tourbillon and chronograph, a full blac
Introducing: The Fully Luminous IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces
Founded in 1868 by Boston watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones, IWC Schaffhausen can look back at more than a century and a half of watchmaking history. More than half of that has involved watches made for aviation, whether military or commercial. Its first-ever pilot’s instrument was made in 1936, and ever since, the company has been dedicated to the world of aviation (even though it does much more than that). Through decades of technical innovation, its reputation for focused, reliable pilot’s watches is rivalled by few. Although the most basic and clean models among the various collections of instruments remain proper fan favourites, IWC also likes to play around with the aesthetics of its Pilot’s Watch collections, both in materials and colours, as well as complexity. Case in point: the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces IW326905, which introduces the brand’s first fully luminous dial.?It’s a well-known fact that IWC has a deep-rooted c
The SIHH 2017 Open to the Public and with more brands (incl. Girard-Perregaux and Ulysse Nardin) according to Fabienne Lupo - Monochrome Watches
Until 2015, the SIHH, Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, organized by the FHH (Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie) was opened only to 16 brands, mostly the Richmont Group (Cartier, JLC, IWC) and a few friends of the group (Parmigiani, Audemars or Greubel). In 2016, 9 new independent brands came to join the show in the Carre des Horlogers (MB&F, Urwerk, Laurent Ferrier). For 2017, in a context that will certainly not be highly?enthusiastic, SIHH will again evolve, by opening to public for the first time and by welcoming 7 new brands (2 international ones and 5 new independents). In an interview given to Le Temps (see here, in French), Fabienne Lupo, the President of the Fondation?de la Haute Horlogerie, gives a few indications on the future of the SIHH. First of all, the show, which was only opened to retailers and journalists, will now open its doors to public visitors, on the Friday 20th of January 2017 – the SIHH will be open for the usual retailers and journalists fr
First Look: The new Schwarz Etienne 1902 Petite Seconde
Sometimes, moving forward means going back to recover the good things from the past. That appears to be the case at Schwarz Etienne, a small, independent brand from La Chaux-de-Fonds that wants to raise its profile and become better known on the watch scene. Founded in 1902, the brand is now in the hands of CEO Florian Brossard. Keen to exploit Schwarz Etienne's high level of vertical integration, the brand's full potential is about to be unleashed. Presented during Geneva Watch Week 2025, the 1902 Petite Seconde collection marks a new chapter in the brand's design language. A blend of old and new, the three-hand dress watch in three dial colours reveals a refined sector dial design, and the movement heralds the return of the brand's signature finger bridges.Brossard has an interesting background. Trained in micromechanics and movement design, he was involved in rebuilding the legendary Minerva manufacture, followed by long stints at Montblanc and Greubel Forsey. As he points out in th
First Look: The Hot Pink Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition
The English phrase pigs might fly is used to express the impossibility of something happening. Well, Oris has just given wings to one of the most famous pigs in popular culture with its new ProPilot X Miss Piggy. Combining the sharp looks of the ProPilot X Collection in a reduced 34mm steel case with a hot pink dial, the new watch would have provoked a rush of compliments (in French) from Miss Piggy, the fabulous diva from The Muppet Show. Following the green ProPilot X Kermit Edition, this second collaboration with The Muppets will delight fans of Jim Henson's larger-than-life pig in a platinum wig – or create a bit of a storm for more conservative members of the watch community.?A somewhat surprising model to honour the glamorous Muppet character, Oris has chosen its ProPilot X case, the brand's edgiest and most contemporary model. While the brand is renowned for its historical aviation classics like the Big Crown Pointer Date, the 44mm ProPilot X of 2019 was envisioned as a ne
