A watch that will never leave your side even when you want to go swimming or diving, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 222.30.38.50.01.001 falls heavy on all with its scratch resistant and anti-reflective black exterior and dial. However, being water resistant till 600 meters was just not enough for this model, and it went on to display thirty minute and twelve-hour recorders and even has a helium escape valve.

Hands-On - Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m America's Cup
Announced recently by Omega and covered in this news article here, the Biel-based brand has just announced the renewal of its role as the official timekeeper of the America's Cup, with the 36th edition to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from the 6th to the 21st of March 2021. At the same time, Omega is also releasing a new limited edition watch to celebrate this partnership, a watch based on the rugged professionally oriented PO 600m with a very handsome colour scheme. Let’s have a closer look at this new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m 36th America’s Cup, now in the metal.Omega and the America’s CupThe America's Cup is renowned as the oldest trophy in international sport and since 1851 is considered to be the most prestigious sailing race in the world. Introducing a new Kickstarter-like project, the Elie Watch by Olivier Jonquet - Monochrome Watches
Pre-registration projects are booming actually and Kickstarter-like method seems to be the way to create a new brand. So does for example Vincent Plomb with the newly introduced VicenTerra Luna. Here is another of these projects presented by a French team, a 1930's inspired cushion case that features an old (but restored) movement. An interesting approach of watchmaking that infuses some fresh air in a very conservative market - we present you the Elie Watch by Olivier Jonquet.Subscription projects are very popular in the entertainment industry, as for example launching new artists. But in the world of watchmaking, that's something quite new but that we, here at Monochrome Watches, are quite fond of. Creating a new brand without any previous track record is hard to imagine. This Kickstarter-like method allows the brand to raise funds before launching the product and it involves the clients in the project, and thus creating a strong link between them. And what is good for us here: it br
Ulysse Nardin Stranger - a Music Box on the Wrist - Monochrome Watches
?Ulysse Nardin presents a world first: a wrist watch with a music box, called Stranger. Why this name you might wonder? That’s because it plays the?melody Strangers in the Night. This brilliant masterpiece was created by?Dieter Meier, the Godfather of Techno-Music who scored hits under the name Yello, and?Dr. Ludwig Oechslin. Ludwig Oechslin is of course no ‘stranger’ (pun intended) for Monochrome readers, as we know him from the MIH Watch and Ochs und Junior (check here and here and here). But Oechslin has a long relationship with Ulysse Nardin, which grabs back to him developing the legendary Freak, the?Trilogy of Time collection – comprising the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, Planetarium Copernicus and Tellurium Johannes Kepler - and the?GMT Perpetuel, boasting an unusual perpetual calendar with a second time zone that can be adjusted forward or backward. We could go on about Oechslin’s genius, however a recommended read is?his biography, as published on
Vacheron Constantin "Mecaniques Sauvages" - A Collection of Grand Complications and Artistic Crafts - Monochrome Watches
Defying the restraint and moderation that has settled over the watchmaking scene of late, it is refreshing to see such a magnificent display of mechanical luxury and grandiose craftsmanship. Unleashing a menagerie of majestic wild animals, Vacheron Constantin gives a riveting display of its inexhaustible creativity and mechanical expertise. Mecaniques Sauvages is a bespoke collection of unique pieces made in Vacheron Constantin's very own customisation department - Les Cabinotiers – where horological fantasies spring to life. To give you an idea of what the watchmakers at Les Cabinotiers are capable of producing, think back to Reference 57260, a private commission delivered in 2015 with no fewer than 57 complications under its belt, making it the most complicated timepiece on our planet. There are reportedly 20 Les Cabinotiers animal-themed watches in the Mecaniques Sauvages collection. For the moment, the brand has shared five models demonstrating a powerful combination of grand
