2014 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve Won by Breguet Classique Chronometrie 7727 - Monochrome Watches
And the Oscar…err, Golden Hand goes to the Breguet Classique Chronometrie. Last Friday evening it was Oscar-night. That is Oscar-night of the watch industry, which is called the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve. Winners in fifteen categories and one overall winner were announced during a gala event in Geneva. There were some remarkable winners; one of them was Gronefeld, who won the prize for Best Tourbillon Watch, and they are the very first winners from the Netherlands! But first, all praise for Breguet’s Classique Chronometrie 7727, an understated dress watch that actually is quite outstanding. Its looks are classic, as we would expect from Breguet, however a denotation on the dial – it reads “10Hz” – already gives away that there’s something special about this watch. Breguet has used magnetism – normally every watch’ enemy –?to improve the precision and the reliability. This means that Breguet’s watchmakers not
IWC Portugieser Chronograph 3714 (Specs & Price)
Since its debut in 1998, the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Ref. 3714 has become the most sought-after, the most recognisable, and certainly the best-selling model in the Portugieser family. Apart from being a veritable design success, this watch has acquired cult status for one reason: it hasn’t changed a bit since its inception. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this modern icon, we thought it was time to take an in-depth look at this watch with a review of the?Portugieser Chronograph 3714.A short history of the?IWC PortugieserThe IWC?Portugieser (not referred to as Portuguese or Portugaise any longer) has its roots in the country that gave its name to this iconic watch. Portugal has a rich history of navigating legends, with explorers of the stature of Vasco da Gama or?Ferdinand Magellan, but maritime exploration has nothing to do with the name of this watch. Video Review Omega Speedmaster Super Racing and Spirate System
A tiny device that makes a massive change… This is how Omega teased its latest technical development, and the watch to house it. The technical achievement in question has a name, it’s the Spirate System. The watch to feature it too, it’s the Omega Speedmaster Super Racing. And we introduced both to you in an article last week, with quite some details. However, this new device that allows ultra-fine tuning of the rate of the watch isn’t really simple to understand. The result and the way to use the Spirate System in real life, for the watchmakers, is extremely efficient. There is true watchmaking science behind it, however. And in this respect, a video will always be more precise than static images to understand such technical topics. Hence why we decided to bring you all the details about the Speedmaster Super Racing and the Spirate System in a video that you can look at right here, on top of this article.?What is the Spirate system…? It is a new technical
Hands-on with the New Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial (LIVE Photos and Pricing) - Monochrome Watches
Before Baselworld 2014, we played with the teaser photos and video that Omega released prior to the official launch during the fair, and we showed you the important details first here. When the fair started, we finally got to see and handle Omega’s modern interpretation of a classic. We go hands-on with the new Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial with the new anti-magnetic movement. In 1957 Omega introduced the Seamaster 300 that became one of the world’s most iconic dive watches. Highly sought after and unfortunately also highly “messed with”; it’s very difficult to find one that is still in original condition and that is not equipped with all kind of after market parts. With the introduction of the Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial, Omega has the solution for those who love the looks of the vintage Seamaster 300, however prefer to buy one without risk and that is in perfect condition to be used to depths up to 300 meters. Panerai Luminor Marina Luminous Trilogy PAM1117, PAM1118 & PAM1119
In a recent interview with MONOCHROME, Panerai's CEO, Jean-Marc Pontroue, gave us a foretaste of what to expect in 2020. The main theme for the brand would be the 70th anniversary of Luminor. To celebrate this anniversary, the Italian brand releases three boutique-exclusive limited edition watches, which make an impact with their potent visibility in the dark: meet the PAM1117, PAM1118 & PAM1119.The Luminor trademark was registered some 70 years ago by Panerai. Luminor was the name chosen by the brand to describe the tritium-based luminous compound applied to the brands’ dials (to replace Radium as it is significantly less radioactive). Over time the word Luminor would come to describe the iconic cushion-shaped case of the dive watch. Although radioactive substances are no longer used on their watches, Panerai releases three new Luminor references that pay tribute to the original luminescence by glowing in the most unusual places.
