Live from SIHH 2019 - Wilhelm Schmid of A. Lange & Sohne - Monochrome Watches
In our latest video coverage of SIHH 2019, our editor-in-chief Frank Geelen sits down with Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne. Find out which of the five watches unveiled during the SIHH 2019 will go down as collector's pieces, and why 2019 is such a special year for some models of the Saxon brand. The star of the SIHH 2019 is the Lange 1 25th Anniversary, the brand's undisputed icon for the last quarter century and, according to Schmid, the backbone of our business. The Lange I Anniversary watch goes back to its roots and is presented in a 38.5mm white gold with blue printed markings on the different levels and surface treatments of the dial.? The watch also pays homage to the two men who put ALS back on the map, and the names of Walter Lange and Gunter Blumlein are engraved on the white gold hinged hunter caseback. The movement also features special anniversary treats, and with its limitation of just 250 timepieces, this is clearly targeted at collectors. The?Datograph Perpe
Weekly Watch Photo - A. Lange & Sohne Still Lifes - Monochrome Watches
This week we’ll start with some rather unusual watch photos, or should I say pieces of art. The photos that we present you today are made by A. Lange & Sohne’s forum moderator at Timezone.com, Edwin. A few weeks ago we used some of his photos of the A. LAnge & Sohne Richard Lange Pour le Merite and today we’ll show you some 16th and 17th century style still lifes featuring Edwin’s Datograph, Lange 1 and the mighty Double Split.Last week’s photographer, GEO, was probably one of the very first to share extremely stylish photos of his watches. Edwin, who started a bit later, is probably one of the best amateur still life photographers that we came across. Although it is weird to call this amateur level. The photos we showed you the other week were still lifes with food, today’s photos are still lifes in the style of the 17th century Dutch masters, like Ambrosius Bosschaert, Balthasar van der Ast, or 18th century French painter Anne Vallayer-Cost
First Look: The New IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 (Incl. Video)
IWC's stellar piece for Watches & Wonders is the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar, the first complication to join the family since it was revamped in 2023. What's more, the 41mm Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar is the first stainless steel model at IWC to bear the names of two legends in the world of watchmaking. Evoking the imprint of Gerald Genta's 1976 design for the Ingenieur, the watch is powered by the famous perpetual calendar module developed by Kurt Klaus for the brand.Sometimes, moving forward in the watch world means going back in time. A good case in point is IWC's Ingenieur, which was revisited in 2023 to rekindle the spirit of Gerald Genta's 1976 design. The Ingenieur was released in the mid-1950s as a classic-looking tool watch fitted with a soft-iron cage to protect the movement from magnetism. Having produced designs for the Royal Oak and the Nautilus, Genta's vision for IWC's watch materialised in 1976 as the Ingenieur SL Jumbo Automatic 1832 with a round, chunky 40mm cas
Oris Divers Sixty Five, now in 42mm, with Blue Dial and Riveted Bracelet (hands-on with live photos & price) - Monochrome Watches
Some of you probably shared a strong enthusiasm last year, when Oris introduced what was?certainly the coolest watch of Baselworld 2015, mixing a superb vintage-inspired design, a nice execution?and a very acceptable price: the now famous Oris Divers Sixty Five?– and I must confess that it is a personal favorite too. Well, this was not a one-shot for the brand but the starting point of an entirely new collection, which already evolved with the introduction of a bronze limited edition dedicated to?Carl Brashear, featuring a 42mm case and a blue dial. It was prefiguring the main update of the Oris Divers Sixty Five,?now in 42mm, with blue dial and riveted bracelet – in stainless steel of course. The 2016 Oris Divers Sixty Five 42mm / Blue dial vs. the 2015 Oris Divers Sixty Five 40mm / Black Dial Ad - Scroll to continue with article Let’s rewind b
The Birth of Kollokium, a new Indie Platform Driven by Design and Freedom
What happens when you put a reputable watch designer, a veteran industry mover and shaker and a renowned collector in the same room? The answer is Kollokium, a new project-based platform that is going to stir things up on the watch scene. Boldly stating that Kollokium is not a brand, the platform founded by Manuel Emch, Barth Nussbaumer and Amr Sindi claims to have no defined artistic direction, no rehashed history, no constraints. Freedom is the operative word here, and Kollokium responds to architectural, artistic and design impulses that inspire the founders. As they say, Kollokium is not so much a stylistic exercise but a mood and the debut Projekt 01 watch fuses raw, industrial case finishings with a unique 3D dial composed of cylindrical pegs.Kollokium’s founders: Amr Sindi, Barth Nussbaumer and Manuel Emch. The TriadSurprisingly, not one of the three founders is a watchmaker. Manuel Emch has a knack for turning watch brands around. From Jaquet Droz to Romain Jerome and from
