The US-only Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic in yellow gold.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Bulgari Boutique in the United States. And although that might seem insignificant to some, Bulgari has taken the occasion to present a tantalising limited edition based on one of its most iconic watches: the Octo Finissimo Automatic. This horological sculpture, with its mix of sharp, straight lines and a round bezel, hardly needs introducing. However, to offer something a bit different, this US-only Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Limited Edition is made of yellow gold, as if it were touched by King Midas himself.Using the very familiar Octo Finissimo design, this limited edition measures 40mm in diameter and just 6.40mm in height. The construction of the full yellow gold case actually relies on the Octo Finissimo S, with beefed-up water-resistance (100m vs 50m for the non-S) thanks to the slightly redesigned case and the inclusion of a screw-down crown. The yellow gold crown has a black ceramic insert. The finishing of the case i
RGM Watch Co. Classic Enamel PS-801-CE (Specs & Price)
When you think of great American watch companies, brands like Hamilton and Waltham come to mind. Neither of those are American anymore, with Hamilton ending US production in 1969 after being acquired by the Buren Watch Company in Buren an der Aare, Switzerland. Hamilton ultimately became part of the Swatch Group and remains a popular brand today. Waltham is a bit fragmented, but now principally Waltham International SA, manufacturing luxury Swiss Made watches with the company's majority owner ironically being an American, Antonio DiBenedetto. Decades ago, both companies manufactured cases and movements, but sadly there are no longer American companies that aren't importing movements and parts. Well, except for one, which we'll review today: RGM Watch Co.RGM Watch Company, founded in 1992 by American watchmaker Roland G. Murphy, is the only American brand that still manufactures cases, dials and movements in-house. You've probably heard of American brands like Shinola or MVMT (and a lar
Could this be the thinnest mechanical watch in the world? Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Squelette (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
This article wasn’t supposed to start like that. We thought we would?be in front of a?new?iteration of an ultra-thin Jaeger-LeCoultre – a nice one for sure but different just because it was featuring a?skeletonized movement. Thus, our article would have been turning around describing you the nicely opened and engraved bridges and the?enameling work done on the dial. However we, at?Monochrome-Watches, like to be precise – and them came the surprise. This?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Squelette is said to be 3.6mm height, making it possibly the?thinnest mechanical watch in the world. We had to investigate!Basically, this new?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Squelette is the openworked and enameled edition of a very subtle and elegant watch that we reviewed a few months ago, the Master Ultra-Thin 1907, a timepiece that our editor-in-chief praised for its understated presence, its overall comfort and of course, for the technical achievement it represents. At the ti
Cory Richards, his Attempt to Blaze a New Route up Mount Everest and a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Prototype - Monochrome Watches
Cory Richards is an exceptional individual. Part of Vacheron Constantin’s campaign “One of not Many”, Richards was a brilliant kid, dropped out of school, got into alcohol and became the first American to summit an 8,000m peak in winter time. This photographer, adventurer and mountaineer has climbed Mount Everest twice. But this year, along with climbing partner Esteban “Topo” Mena, he has attempted to reach the top of the world from a path no one has set foot on before. Although the duo had to turn around, Richards is already planning a second attempt for 2020Strapped to Cory Richards’ wrist during this attempt was a Vacheron Constantin Overseas. Not any Overseas, a titanium/tantalum prototype designed specifically for the expedition. Just a few weeks following his return to the USA, on the occasion of a New York press conference and customer event, MONOCHROME had the opportunity to sit down with him.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – Why climbing?
