MONOCHROME's Top 10 Watches of the SIHH 2019 - Monochrome Watches
Now that the SIHH 2019 is over, it is time to sit down and take a closer look at the?dozens of watches that were introduced.?Overall, it has been a good year in terms of novelties – probably not the best edition ever, but still, there were some pretty interesting things to see, especially in the field of complications. This also means that the “entry-level” or “affordable” categories have been slightly forgotten by some brands. After all, SIHH means Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. Thus, you won’t be surprised to see that our selection of the 10 best watches of the show is focused on “high-end” models.?Note: this selection is based on a consensus among the MONOCHROME team. It reflects our preferences. If you?have a different view on what could be the best watches of the SIHH 2019, feel free to share them in the comment section at the end of this article.A. Introducing: A Trilogy of Audemars Piguet Models in a new Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 Ceramic
Audemars Piguet recreates a colour intimately associated with its first Royal Oak model of 1972. Although the colour described as “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” has appeared on many dials, it has never been replicated in high-tech ceramic. Inspired by the clear night skies of the Vallee de Joux, this darker tone of blue ceramic is used on the three models – two Royal Oak Offshore Chronographs and a Royal Oak Openworked Double Balance.Audemars Piguet's blue ceramic pays homage to the famous “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” tapisserie dial selected by Gerald Genta for the dial of the first Royal Oak in 1972 (reference 5402ST). Made by Geneva dial maker Stern, the dark blue “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” colour was obtained by adding black pigment no.50 to the protective varnish. The nuage or cloud effect was a chemical reaction produced by the small amount of black pigment poured into the liquid lacquer. Today, the distinctive in-house colour used on dials is obtained using
Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P - World's Thinnest Automatic Watch - Review (Specs & Price)
Piaget and ultra-thin are two words that go together very well. For over 60 years now, the brand has developed a true expertise in ultra-thin watches and movements (don't forget that Piaget started its life as a movement manufacturer and not as a jeweller). From the Calibre 9P to the recent 900P, the brand has gone from one world-record to another. Last year, a certain Italian-rooted brand unveiled what was the thinnest automatic movement in current production… Today Piaget responds with their answer.?They took one the thinnest hand-wound watches in the world, the Altiplano 900P, and added a peripheral rotor making it an automatic. And not just an automatic but the world’s thinnest automatic wristwatch.Piaget and the Concept of Ultra-ThinPiaget was founded in 1874, in the village of La C?te-aux-Fees, as a movement manufacturer. From 1913 onwards, the manufacturer appeared in watch industry supplier catalogues as the specialist of ultra-thin components. The main evolution in
Buying Guide - 5 Unconventional Watches With Convertible Cases
The clothes we wear, the way we do our hair, the music we listen to, and the food we eat are all a reflection of our personality. Heck, even the watches we wear are a reflection of our demeanour and interests or even passion. But what if you want to reveal more than just one side of your personality and, as an extension, your watch as well? Most wristwatches need to be swapped out to give you a different look, but some have the ability to change looks ‘on the fly’. Here are five mechanical watches with convertible cases and multiple faces.Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face IIIThe most recent release that falls under the category of convertible watches is the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III. It is the third model by Hamilton that has a central container that can be flipped vertically, instantly changing the look of your watch. One dial is a sporty chronograph with three sub-dials, and the other shows you the movement with just a central chronograph seconds hand. Clever, bol
