Introducing: IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic 41 TOP GUN Lake Tahoe
It is widely known that IWC has experience with ceramic watches since it was the first brand to release a timepiece made of zirconium oxide (the real name for ceramic) in 1985 with the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar. In recent years, the Schaffhausen-based brand has been playing a lot with colours, releasing Top Gun models in black (of course), beige (Mojave), green (Woodland), blue (Oceana) and white, with the Lake Tahoe editions, until now available with a chronograph movement or a perpetual calendar. Now, the concept returns in a simpler, smaller and more accessible watch based on the Mark XX range, with the new Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 TOP GUN Lake Tahoe IW328104.What we’re looking at here is essentially a “Tahoed” version of the Mark XX, the latest evolution in the classic Mark series of IWC. As such, you won’t be surprised to see that most of the specifications of this new compact Lake Tahoe are shared with the standard steel models, as well as the li
RGM Model 600-B Chronograph Blue Dial (Specs & Price)
American watchmaker RGM introduced its Model 600 Chronograph last year with inspiration from military pilot watches from the 1960s and 1970s. It had a straightforward design with a black dial, bi-compax layout and no date and joined the rising trend of military-inspired chronographs like the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic Chronograph and Longines Avigation BigEye. Blue dials are really trending as well and Longines recently introduced the Avigation BigEye Titanium with a gradient blue dial, trading a bit of authenticity for style. The indie watchmaker is following suit with the RGM Model 600-B and a striking sunray blue dial.?The chronograph is part of RGM's broader pilot collection that house ETA movements in lieu of in-house calibres. This allows for more accessible pieces that still showcase the brand's quality and design prowess. The case is stainless steel with a brushed finish (polished bezel) and contemporary size – 42mm in diameter and 14mm in height with crystal. That cr
The Collector's Series - Our first female collector and her glorious vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso - Monochrome Watches
It happened. Although, quite frankly, I am rather ashamed to admit it, as it simply shouldn’t have taken so long. This week, it gives me great pleasure to welcome our first female collector, Lara Berry and her glorious vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso to the Collector's Series. In a previous life, Lara worked for Experian in the finance data industry. Having spent several years in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Australia, she returned to the UK, when in 2015 she left the firm as an Account Director. She joined the well-regarded vintage watch dealers – Sonning Vintage Watches in March 2015 to help support the company’s growth plans. Now a Director at Sonning, I have to confess, prior to the interview, I asked Lara if she ever looked back on her corporate days since becoming self-employed. She simply smiled and said it was the best thing she had ever done. I am sure many of you would share the sentiment. Without further adieu, Lara and her vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso:
Porsche Design 1919 Globetimer All Black Titanium - Full Review (live photos, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
A German piece of engineering needs to do what it is designed for and it needs to do that well. It will most likely be a perfect blend of functionality, aesthetics and it will sport a certain degree of inconspicuous innovation. Porsche Design is as German as it can get, with a couple of firsts in watchmaking, which helped in gaining validity in the business. The first ever Porsche Design product was a watch, the PVD coated Chronograph I in 1972. Now, 43 years later, the brand?introduces the Porsche Design 1919 Globetimer All Black Titanium,?which embraces the same design merits as the original. And here is the review of this architectural piece.History/BackgroundJust to remind you, Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Butzi Porsche. The design elements of the very first product from the brand are still very much alive in this 2015 introduction. The first wristwatch, conveniently the first product designed under the Porsche Design brand, followed the philosophy from the Bauha
Kering Group 2020 Half-Year Results In Line With Industry, Resilience Despite Crisis - Monochrome Watches
Following Swatch Group, Richemont and recently?LVMH, it is now time for Kering, a French group specialized in luxury (fashion, jewelery and watchmaking) and one of the leaders on the market, to announce its half-year results for the year 2020. As expected, the COVID-19 crisis shows its effects on sales and profitability, yet the group also demonstrates a certain resilience to the current situation, just like its main competitor, LVMH.Kering’s results have been calculated over the first six months of 2020, thus right in the middle of what’s known as one of the worse sanitary crisis of recent history. As such, it is no surprise to the sales down by 29.6%, from 7,638 million for the first six months of 2019 to now 5,378 million. Still, not only these numbers are in line with the rest of the industry but also show that luxury, whether fashion/accessories or hard luxury, is slightly less impacted than what the market was expecting and that major groups with diversified portfolio
