Phillips Sells the Omega Tourbillon 30 I, One Of The First Tourbillon Wristwatches Ever, For a Monumental CHF 1,428,500 (Most Expensive Omega Ever Auctioned) - Monochrome Watches
Today is the second day of the Geneva Watch Auction Six (GWA6) by Phillips. While there were some impressive lots (is that even a surprise from Aurel Bacs and Phillips…), with a Patek 2523 or an incredible Patek 2497 in white gold, the star of the show for us here, at MONOCHROME, certainly was the?Omega Tourbillon 30 I – a 1947 watch and one of the very first tourbillon wristwatches ever made, and the first to have been completed in Switzerland. This watch just sold for an impressive CHF?1,428,500, making it the most expensive Omega ever auctioned. The story behind this watch is rather impressive. While the tourbillon is, as many of you know, the invention of a certain Abraham Louis Breguet in 1801 (or?at least the patent is from that year, even if it was not revealed to the public until 1805), it has remained a pocket watch feature for close to 150 years. What is today an almost common complication was not back in the days, and it has always been a feature reserved for ultr
Weekly Watch Photo: The Arnold and Son Collection - Monochrome-Watches
In the past year?we have covered Arnold and Son quite often. And with good reason, because they have unveiled a lot of impressive novelties. In our article about the new?UTTE Tourbillon?we even started with “Yet another novelty from Arnold & Son!” and?we explained that we were rather impressed by Arnold & Son. For our Weekly Watch Photo we asked several of our befriended brand for some summer photos, and of course we also asked Arnold & Son. They work together with Watch-Anish?for their (superb) photos and we get to present you even more of their collection…What is truly interesting with Arnold and Son is the number and the complexity of the watches in collection. And even if the brand is quite new and is not a proper manufacture (meaning an integrated structure with R&D, conception and fabrication in the same entity), they never hide the fact that all the movements were?coming from the highly qualified manufacture La Joux-Perret. And another very inte

Introducing the VicenTerra Luna - Monochrome Watches
Some three years ago we first introduced you to VicenTerra, a new watch brand that launched their first timepiece, the VicenTerra GMT-3, via pre-registering. All GMT-3’s of the pre-registration, which were sold for 1/3th of the normal retail price, have been delivered and we’ve seen some photos of happy new owners on the web. Now VicenTerra have opened a new pre-registration for their second timepiece, the VicenTerra Luna. The pre-registration is actually a Kickstarter-like method and this has proven to be a successful formula for VicenTerra. Developing your own complications requires a serious budget. The fact that?Vincent Plomb, the founder of VicenTerra, is a constructor and develops the complication modules himself, definitely cuts a large part of the costs. However starting the production still requires funds and through the registration you can secure one of the limited edition: red gold, yellow gold, white gold or stainless steel. Introducing Vacheron Constantin Quai de lIle Steel with Blue Dial - Specs & Price
The?Vacheron Constantin Quai de l'Ile is a watch with surprising contrasts. Made by one of the most prestigious names in?the industry, but crafted in steel. Designed in a sporty, urban way but featuring a “Hallmark of Geneva” movement. Bearing a name synonymous with dream watches but rather accessible. This superb surprise is now available in a new style. Here is the?Vacheron Constantin “Entry-Level” Quai de l'Ile in Steel, now with Blue Dial. The?Vacheron Constantin Quai de l'Ile collection was quite difficult to position, at least for the first years of its existence. Rather sporty, except for the fact it was made from gold, complex in a way, but maybe not complex enough for some collectors… A difficult watch to categorise, until 2016 and the presentation of what would become the “entry-level” proposition of the brand, and a stunning offer to say the least. While previously quite unclear, the switch to a stainless steel case and the redesign o
