The return of the historic A. Lange & Sohne Centennial Tourbillon
A. Lange & Sohne is renowned as one of the most distinguished watchmakers from Saxony on the market today, but life hasn’t always been smooth sailing. As a witness and victim of the vicissitudes of German history over the past two centuries, the destiny of the brand has come full circle. From its foundation in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolf Lange in Glashutte to its destruction during WWII, and from its expropriation after the war to its miraculous resurrection after Germany’s reunification in 1990 by the founder’s great-grandson, A. Lange & Sohne has taken a circuitous path but is now safely home. Today, A. Lange & Sohne is celebrating another return, this time marked by the return of a valuable pocket watch that was lost in the turmoil following WWII to its rightful place in the Museum Bautzen.Known as the “Centennial Tourbillon”, this exquisite gold pocket watch with a miniature enamel painting of the goddess Minerva was one of only a few tourbillo
Hublot King Power 692 Bang New York Limited Edition - Monochrome-Watches
Hublot has?grown?tremendously fast in the past few decades and is now recognized as part of the top luxury Swiss manufactures. It has not always been the case?and before the arrival of the famous Jean-Claude Biver in 2004, Hublot’s destiny was rather?uncertain. Nowadays, we all know Hublot for its recognizable port-hole inspired?design, the oversized cases and because they were one of the main sponsors of the recent?Football?World Cup in Brazil (remember the?assistant?referees with the large signs above they head, to indicate extra time or changing players.)?Hublot isn’t shy of limited editions and?they?just released one that we do like.?Here is the?new Hublot King Power 692 Bang with hands and markers inspired by the NYC?yellow cabs. The Hublot King Power is the brand’s most massive and sportiest collection. It comes in a ‘gigantic’ 48mm case, that is made, depending on the editions, in carbon fiber, titanium or ceramic. ?As said before the design is inspi
5 Questions for Guillaume T¨ºtu, COO of Ralph Lauren Watches
In 2009, a new brand made its debut to the SIHH, the?Ralph Lauren Watch & Jewelry Co, a joint venture between the iconic lifestyle?brand and the Richemont Group, the watchmaking giant. Yet, the path?has not been simple and after several?unclear collections and hesitations in positioning the brand, the?brand was absent from the SIHH 2016. Though,?this was not the end of the story. New?teams,?repositioning of the collections,?appointment of industry?veteran?Guillaume T¨ºtu, first as?Product Development Director and as COO since October, finally a discreet comeback of the brand at the SIHH 2017. It was perfect timing for us to sit down with our long-time friend Guillaume and to understand his vision for the?Ralph Lauren Watch & Jewelry Co.Before we let Guillaume explains his vision and the strategy Ralph Lauren?wants to implement for its Watch and?Jewelry division, the big news (as reported by our colleagues Watchonista here) is that the brand will be officially back at?the SIHH in
Hands-On - Zenith Defy El Primero 21 (Video, Specs & Price)
Back in 1969, Zenith introduced a movement that would later become an icon, being both one of the first automatic chronograph movements, and being the 20th century’s king of precision, beating at 5Hz and being precise to a?10th of a second. Its name: the El Primero. At Baselworld, the Le Locle-based manufacture?has given this fast-beating engine a 21st century appeal: 50Hz frequency, precision to 100th of a second, modern look, open-worked movement. Here is the?Zenith Defy El Primero 21… and it’s fast, very fast. The story of the Zenith El Primero has almost become?legend.?When we talk about icons in watchmaking, most of the time we refer to watches as a whole. The El Primero is one of the few iconic movements. It was launched in 1969, as one of the very first (if not the first) automatic chronograph movements, and already showed?impressive architecture – fully integrated chronograph with central rotor and column-wheel, far from a last-minute?patch-up job. But wh
In the Shop - The MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription 1 with Habring2
“Since I started MONOCHROME in 2006, the motto has been “dedicated to fine watches”, and this is exactly what drives not just me, but the entire team, on a daily basis. I guess it goes without saying that we're watch enthusiasts ourselves. Today is a landmark in MONOCHROME's 15 years of history, as we introduce our first collaboration watch, the MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription 1.” Frank Geelen, Founder of MONOCHROME.?For our first collaboration watch, we turned to one of our favourite brands, Habring2, an independent Austrian watchmaking atelier created by Maria and Richard Habring in 2004. Habring2 specialises in unusual displays such as dead-beat seconds and foudroyante, as well as chronograph movements.
