Dead Second a.k.a. Seconde Morte for Deadly Precision - Monochrome Watches
Watch collectors and aficionados are used to looking at the nearly continuous sweep of a second hand around the dial to distinguish a mechanical timepiece from quartz watches. In a mechanical watch the second hands moves forward in increments of a fraction of a second depending on the frequency of its balance. Yet, dead second watches (also called dead beat second or seconde morte in French) mark the second with discreet jumps between them, just like quartz watches. A Technical Perspective?looks into this rare, smart and mechanically sophisticated functionality.Upclose with the Jaeger-Lecoultre Geophysic with dead second (true second), a reedition in tribute to a rare chronometer manufactured in 1958, the first international geophysical year. Hands-On: The Polo-and-Racquet-made Hublot Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic
Hublot has always been associated with the fusion of disparate materials, starting with Carlo Crocco's surprising cocktail of a gold case and rubber strap on board the flagship Classic Original. Baselworld 2021 Postponed, Won't Be Held in January 2021
While Spring has come to Switzerland, the sky over the town of Basel remains cloudy and grey as the (sad) story continues. Already under pressure after the departure of Swatch Group, followed by the exodus of multiple other exhibitors and coupled with the current sanitary crisis, MCH, the owner of Baselworld, was forced to cancel its 2020 edition. This was followed by a series of announcements when some of the major exhibiting brands ( , Patek, Tudor, Chopard and LVMH among others) announced their decision to leave the show after?disagreements regarding the refund policy. The Group still studies options. The fact is that the Geneva-based Watches & Wonders fair, held by the Federation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) with the backing of Ri
