Hands-On Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Diamonds 15210OR
Audemars Piguet's Code 11.59 collection was unveiled in 2019 and marked the brand’s first important product launch in 20 years. Comprised of six models, 13 references, and three of in-house calibres, its distinctive 41mm case design was, as the brand pointed out, consciously thought for both men and women. Presented in January 2022, these two gem-set models blanketed with more than 1,000 brilliant-cut diamonds on the case are clearly earmarked for women and marked a first for the Code 11.59 collection.Diamond paved gold cases and dialsThe complex architecture of the 41mm case, with its octagonal middle case sandwiched between a thin bezel and round caseback, sparkles with the light of 473 brilliant-cut diamonds (~2.69 carats). The most salient feature of the case is the octagonal central container that pays homage to the iconic octagonal bezel of the Royal Oak. Viewed from the side, you can how the floating lugs are hollowed and welded to the bezel module. Every surface is paved
Recap: The Best Vintage-Inspired Watches of 2024
A trend that started in the early 2010s, vintage-inspired watches have been one of the main focuses of the watch industry ever since. And, to our biggest surprise, the trend is not over. It might have slowed down a bit compared to the late 2010s, but we’re still seeing dozens of “heritage”, “retro”, or “vintage re-edition” watches appearing every year – to a point where it seems impressive that brands still find unexplored old models to bring back to life after all these years… Without further ado, we’re now taking a look at what we consider the Best Vintage-Inspired Watches of 2024, with a rather eclectic selection ranging from 1970s cool to classic models from the golden era of watchmaking or a brutalist watch that no one expected to be reincarnated.?Amida Digitrend Steel, Black and Gold EditionsAmida is one of those brands that fell victim to the Quartz crisis but has had a loyal following ever since. Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Collection - Hands-on Review, Price
Following numerous new models in the Speedmaster collection this year already (incl. the brand new Moonwatch), Omega is adding a new version to the range. A new Speedmaster? Yes, but this one is actually quite special; it comes with many unprecedented features and reintroduces a name that is dear to the brand. So, let’s go straight to the point: here’s the new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Collection, a new design, a new size, a new movement, the comeback of the Chronoscope name, a dial that echoes vintage watches from the brand… Let’s have a closer look. The Comeback of the name ChronoscopeThe name Chronoscope isn’t new to Omega. It was used during the mid-2000s in the De Ville collection as a name for its chronograph watches. In fact, it goes much deeper than this, since the first watch named Chronoscope by Louis Brandt (the company that would become Omega) dates back to 1885 – you can see this pocket watch below. But why Chronoscope? This requires
Reservoir Watches Retrograde/Jumping Display - Hands-On (Specs & Price)
There are some new kids on the block and they go by the name of Reservoir, and they happened to be one of the coolest finds at Baselword 2017. Further to their pre-launch presentation earlier this year, the brand’s first collections are now on the market. Their timepieces provide their own cool, off-beat take on watchmaking, inspired by their fascination for all things mechanical, and a nostalgia for the heyday of car culture and old measurement instruments: speedometers, tachometers, fuel, oil, temp, volt gauges, you name it!If you think that most of the cars nowadays are divested of personality? That the cool, powerful, sensual designs of the past have given up far too much of their character in the pursuit of practicality and safety? Well, if you do feel nostalgic about the golden age of car culture -iconic sports cars, racing gloves, oil gauges, the adrenaline of car racing- Reservoir might be worth a closer look.
