Audemars Royal Oak Offshore Black Ceramic Beast
The ROO Beast in black ceramic… This is it. No need to tease you; you’re looking at the very first iteration of the classic, 1993-inspired version of the Royal Oak Offshore made entirely of black ceramic, from case to bracelet. And not only were we already very enthusiastic about the return of this watch two years ago – in a slightly updated version, technically at least – but seeing it now clad in this full-black, monochromatic look… Well, it is quite something indeed. Meet the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 42mm Black Ceramic ref. 26238CE, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the disruptive watch launched in 1993?by the Le Brassus-based manufacture.?Image by www.phillips.comA very short reminder. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, also known as the ROO or the Beast (in its first incarnation), was born in 1993 as an answer to the steady decline in sales of the classic Royal Oak. It was a watch to answer the needs o
Baselworld Will Be Back in 2022... But It Will Be Very Different - Monochrome Watches
What has just been announced by the MCH Group, the company behind the Basel watch fair, came as a surprise. We thought and even announced that Baselworld had gone, replaced by another show called Hour Universe. Baselworld was held for the last time in 2019. Seriously hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the departure of most of the large exhibiting brands, the organisation cancelled the 2020 and 2021 editions. However, the MCH Group has just officially announced that the show will be back with its historical name but makes clear that Baselworld 2022, expected in March/April next year, won’t be the same as past editions of the fair.?As Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of the show, explains, “the Baselworld brand must remain, but it must fundamentally change“. On both statements, we couldn’t agree more. While we’re quite happy to see the return of the emblematic watch fair, it has to change drastically… In fact, it is forced to change since most

Chopard has been a loyal partner to the historic Mille Miglia endurance rally since 1988. Watches and Formula 1 - Episode 2 - Ferrari and Hublot - Monochrome Watches
Without a doubt, the biggest name in Formula 1 certainly is Ferrari. It is the only brand still running since the formation of the Official Formula 1 Championship in 1950. The have competed in every single race (except the very first one) and in every single season of the championship, with some of the biggest, most illustrious names behind the wheel. Partner it up with a bold, relatively young Swiss watchmaking brand like Hublot and you have a strong, flamboyant bond! Here is our second installment of Watches and Formula 1, with Ferrari and Hublot. One way or another, you cannot ignore their part in the success of Formula 1 and I everyone has to acknowledge the pedigree of the brand and it's racing team – and everything they did for the sport of motor racing. The most important part is to understand just what Ferrari (the car maker) and the Scuderia Ferrari (the racing team) have achieved over the years, and that is A LOT! Introducing the Ulysse Anchor Escapement - Monochrome Watches
Earlier this year at Baselworld, Ulysse Nardin introduced an entirely new escapement that is referred to as the Ulysse Anchor Escapement. While its name does not immediately give away what it’s all about, it can best be seen in relation to previous ground-breaking developments of the brand, who were the first to introduce a silicon escapement wheel, and for that matter silicon in a wrist watch movement. That was with the introduction of the Freak, back in 2001. Fast forward to the December 2012, when Monochrome broke the story of Girard-Perregaux’s new silicon escapement (and we’re not just talking about the escape wheel or pallet fork, but about the entire escapement) we immediately recognized the potential game-changing qualities. Ulysse Nardin’s new Ulysse Anchor Escapement works in more or less a similar way, and we believe it holds equal, or more, game-changing properties. Let us explain what the new escapement actually is, and why it is, potentially, such
