SIHH 2014: Recap of all the A. Lange & Sohne novelties (with LOTS of photos) - Monochrome Watches
Apart from the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna we've presented you last Monday (see here) and the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase that you have discovered through Frank's hands-on (see here), A. Lange & Sohne revealed more new timepieces at the 2014 edition of the SIHH. Monochrome-Watches looks back on the new models of the Saxonian brand, and adds a LOAD of hands-on photos.1815 Tourbillon / 1815 (2014)The 1815 case is nothing new in the A. Lange & Sohne range, nor are the tourbillons. Is the 1815 Tourbillon boring? Not at all. It's a classic interpretation of the very legible and elegant 1815 design, which always features a lot of horological sweetness. The new 1815 Tourbillon features a large tourbillon, visible through an equally large aperture in the dial, and there’s more. New is a stop-seconds mechanism (also sometimes referred to as hack system) with a Zero-Reset function. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Hands-On - The 2022 Editions of the Arnold & Son Ultrathin Tourbillon
Indie watchmaker Arnold & Son introduced its Ultrathin Tourbillon Escapement (UTTE) in 2013. With a height of just 2.97mm, the UTTE was one of the thinnest tourbillon movements on the market until Bvlgari smashed all records with its 1.95mm thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon in 2014. Revisited with different dial textures and a remarkable skeletonised version in 2016, the Ultrathin Tourbillon is back in 2022 with on-trend grained dials. Offered in platinum with a green dial and red gold with a blue dial, the latest models benefit from an upgraded movement with an even longer power reserve and a redesigned case with a slimmer profile. The offset layout of the dial, with the hours and minutes counter at noon mirrored by the large tourbillon aperture at 6 o'clock, is familiar and designed to echo the way information was relayed on John Arnold's historical marine chronometers. About 6 months ago, Omega announced the renewal of its role as the official timekeeper of the America's Cup, with the 36th edition to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from the 6th to the 21st of March 2021. Coincidentally, the brand also released a special edition watch, based on the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m. Today, as we’re getting closer from the start of the legendary race, the Biel-based brand release another special model, this time based on its robust diving chronograph, with multiple new features. Meet the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America's Cup Chronograph. The America's Cup is renowned as the oldest trophy in international sport and since 1851 is considered to be the most prestigious sailing race in the world. Basel news: Chopard - Monochrome Watches
Chopard Elton John CollectionChopard released no less than 6 new watches in the weeks before Baselworld. For me only 2 of the 6 are interesting, as the other 4 are ladies models. Although… one of the ladies models really jumps out, because it’s made for a man. the Chopard Elton John Collection. ICE, ICE, BABY… that’s some serious bling-bling. Luckily (for me) Chopard also releases two?very interesting watches. The first is the new L.U.C Twist that will be available in 18ct rose or white gold. The white gold model has a black dial and white gold dauphine hands, the rose gold model come with a silver dial and rose gold hands. The 41 mm case, 10 mm thick, is water resistance to 30 meters and has two saphire crystals (front and back). This classic dress watch has a not so classic size and crown position; 41 mm being relatively large and the crown is positioned at 4 o’clock. It comes on a hand-sewn brown or black alligator leather with a pin buckle in matching
Hands-On Review: The Tudor Black Bay 54
Black Bay, Black Bay 58 and now, Black Bay 54. Tudor continues to expand its signature dive watch collection… by reducing it again. The BB is typically a watch that lives with its times, a watch that follows the trends. When it was first presented, back in 2012, the original Black Bay Burgundy watch was in tune with the current market; vintage style in a relatively large case. But things have changed quite drastically over the years. And now that the market is asking for more reasonable diameters, the classic diver comes back… to the original diameter of the 1950s. But that Black Bay 54 remains typical Tudor; vintage style, modern features. Let’s check if it’s any good.BackgroundCompact, clean, historically relevant and yet full of modernity, the Black Bay 54 is a direct tribute to the past of the brand. In fact, it has to be seen as a modern interpretation of Tudor’s first ever Submariner watch, to be precise the Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922. A
