2020 IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 IW3583 - Hands-On, Specs & Price
The Portugieser (no longer referred to as Portuguese or Portugaise) is probably IWC’s most emblematic collection. With a history dating back to the late 1930s with the reference 325, this nautical-inspired and elegant watch has been equipped with all possible complications. However, over the last couple of years, there have been no time-only models in the collection – somewhat surprising given that this format was the origin of the model. Well, those days are over as IWC introduces a new, compact, daily-oriented and ultra-clean version of its nautical icon, with a neatly organised dial with small seconds. Let’s have a look at the new IWC Portugieser Automatic 40.?No need to beat around the bush… This new version features all the classic traits of the IWC Portugieser family. Even without the logo on its dial, it would be recognizable as such. A thin bezel, a large dial with a railroad minute track, the signature applied Arabic numerals, the leaf-shaped hands, etc
Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Limited Edition - Monochrome Watches
Earlier this year Omega introduced a new version of a classic and highly collectable variation of the Speedmaster, the Speedmaster Mark II. This very attractive re-issue immediately won the hearts of collectors around the world. Speedmasters and limited editions are a commodity, however today we’re introducing a new (and the first) limited edition Speedmaster Mark II. The Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 pays tribute to, and is inspired by, the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The new Speedmaster Mark II looks pretty much similar to the original Speedmaster Mk.II that was first introduced in 1969. Its typical tonneau-shaped case features a beautiful polished and sun-ray brushed finish, with lovely beveled and polished edges. The dial features the typical tri-compax 3-6-9 lay-out: a 30-minute register at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour register at 6 o'clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock. The tachymeter scale is rather special and is unique in the Omega collection. It is placed underneath
Patek Philippe Nautilus ref.5980/1A Fully Reviewed - Monochrome Watches
Any discerning watch fan would know that the race to build the first ever automatic chronograph in the late 1960s was one of the moments that changed the landscape of how we define sports watches today. It's a topic of much debate and great controversy regarding who came first. Similar to Formula One racing, the very sport that became synonymous to automatic chronographs, competition is stiff - and winning is everything. This is where qualifying in pole position, and passing the checkered flag first means basking in the glory of winning. However, any discerning race fan would also know that sometimes you don’t have to come first to win the championship…Put aside your watch nerd hat for a moment, and don the racing helmet of one of Formula One’s greatest. Let’s take a trip down memory lane. The year is 1991 and Formula One is at its peak, with speed demon Ayrton Senna (may he rest in peace) racing with everything he’s got. It is the year where the newer mor
Hands-on - The Louis Moinet Time to Race Chronograph
The story behind these fun, bespoke chronographs packs a good chunk of history, dating back to 1816 when horologist extraordinaire Louis Moinet produced the first world’s first chronograph. Known as the ‘Compteur de Tierces’, this pocket watch was designed to time the passage of stars and could measure events to 1/60th of a second, complete with start, stop and reset functions beating at an impressive 216,000vph! Given this head start in the race to measure elapsed times, Louis Moinet proposes the new Time to Race chronographs that can be customised with a lucky number and a choice of three racing-themed colours. Borrowing the smaller case dimensions of the recent 40.7mm Memoris Spirit, the chronograph complication of the Time to Race is displayed on the dial with a clear, open view of the column wheel and levers. The Louis Moinet Compteur de Tierces from 1816.Pimp my RideBefore looking at the chronograph, a few words to explain the concept of these ‘one-of-a-kin
Introducing: The Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT
The model Tudor fans have been clamouring for finally materialises with the release of the Black Bay 58 GMT. Although the Black Bay collection is no stranger to dual time zone models – the first Tudor Black Bay GMT was introduced in 2018 – this is the first time the more compact 39mm Black Bay 58 earns its wings. Decked with an appealing neo-vintage flair, the two-toned burgundy and black bezel and gilt touches evoke the golden age of air travel in the 1950s when travelling across time zones was the ultimate sign of a glamorous lifestyle.Following the launch of the popular 41mm Black Bay series in 2012, Tudor introduced the Black Bay 58 in 2018. Appealing to a wider audience with its more compact 39mm diameter, the Black Bay 58 was closer in size to its forefather, the 37mm Tudor Submariner 7924 of 1958, the brand's first 200m water-resistant diver's watch, also known as the Big Crown'.
