VIDEO - Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph, the World's Thinnest Mechanical Chronograph
It all started with the thinnest tourbillon in 2014. Later followed the thinnest minute repeater and the thinnest automatic watch. In 2018, Bvlgari unveiled the thinnest automatic watch ever (also the thinnest tourbillon). This year, the brand breaks its fifth record in ultra-thin watches, with the thinnest mechanical chronograph ever made – and it is automatic and features a GMT function… Just that! We’re going to talk about this “fifth element” with Guido Terreni, Managing Director at Bvlgari Watches, who will reveal all the secrets behind the impressive Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT.Bvlgari’s decision to enter the race for the thinnest watches was perfectly planned. When creating the Octo Finissimo collection, the brand had a plan for the future: breaking one record after another and covering the entire spectrum of classical complications. Yet, the quest for thinness isn’t just about numbers. It was conceived as a whole, in order to
Tutima Grand Flieger Classic Automatic - Monochrome Watches
Many brands are associated with pilot watches these days, which is among the most popular of styles. IWC, Breitling, Zenith, Laco, Hamilton and scores of others have long histories with these tools of aviation and bona fide war credentials to back up contemporary offerings. Glashutte-based Tutima is on this list and perhaps best known for the legendary Flieger Chronograph of 1941. In 2013, the brand released the Grand Flieger Classic Chronograph as a modern take on the 1941 original with design cues harkening back to World War II. The Grand Flieger Classic Automatic is a three-hand variant of the chronograph with a day/date complication and similar wartime roots. Let's take a closer look at this affordable modern classic.BACKGROUNDTutima was founded in 1927 by Dr. Ernst Kurtz who formed two watch factories from the recently bankrupt Glashutte's Deutsche Pr?zisions-Uhrenfabrik (DPUG). Urofa (Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashutte AG) concentrated on the production of ebauches while Ufag (Uhren
Announcement - "Patek Philippe: The Authorized Biography" by Nicholas Foulkes - Available now via Patek.com - Monochrome Watches
Over the centuries some watch manufactures have grown to an almost mythical status, becoming legends, and not only among watch collectors. Their fame has transcended the circle of initiates to gain worldwide recognition. As always with legends however, there remains gray areas. One such example is Patek Philippe. Many have tried to shed light on the history of this Old Maison, inlcuding the Mono team (cf. Nautilus History) but the picture was always somehow incomplete. Now however you have the opportunity to know everything you ever wanted about Patek, with the launch of an official book characterised as the definitive history of the legendary Swiss manufacture. Introducing “Patek Philippe: The Authorized Biography” by Nicholas Foulkes – available?now via?Patek.com.Many of us know the outline of Patek Philippe's history: a manufacture created in 1839 by Polish watchmaker Antoine Norbert de Patek (1812-1877) who was subsequently joined by Adrien Philippe before the bra
Introducing The New Ulysse Nardin Blast Free Wheel Marquetry
During this year’s Geneva Watch Days, Ulysse Nardin unveiled the captivating and innovative Blast Free Wheel Marquetry. This creation showcases the artistic potential of silicon and features a familiar design reminiscent of the Executive Free Wheel Tourbillon, characterised by its captivating display of movement components. This latest horological composition echoes the recurring thematic of “floating” elements, encompassing a flying tourbillon, a poised gear train, and a power reserve indicator. Furthermore, this timepiece includes multi-coloured silicon marquetry, an artistry that had hitherto adorned the Freak X editions since 2019. This noteworthy revelation marks the inaugural integration of this artistic technique within the Blast collection. Let’s glance at this Ulysse Nardin Blast Free Wheel Marquetry timepiece.Presented in a 45mm white gold Blast case, the watch manifests an imposing presence, augmented by the deliberate omission of a conventional bezel
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Repetition Minutes Perpetuelle (Specs & Price)
Jaeger-LeCoultre might be famous for its minimalistic, Art Deco watch, the Reverso, or for its elegant Master collection but this would be a reductive appraisal considering everything else the Grande Maison can achieve: metiers d’art, complex movements, superb designs. This year, at the SIHH, the brand introduced an incredible masterpiece, the Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon Westminster, as well as a new design for its high-end Master watches. Combining these two, the brand has presented another impressive piece with an innovative chiming mechanism – and more. Here’s the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Repetition Minutes Perpetuelle.A complex chimeThe first striking aspect (pun intended) of this new Master Grande Tradition is its chiming mechanism. We already knew that JLC was one of the most knowledgeable manufactures when it comes to minute repeaters: it is the only brand in the world to have over 200 chiming watch calibres in its historical and mode
