Introducing: Steel-and-Gold and Gradient Dials for the Longines Spirit Flyback
Presented last year by Longines as the flagship model in its recent pilot-oriented collection, the Spirit Flyback paid tribute to an important function for the brand, the retour-en-vol chronograph. While the authorship of the flyback complication is a topic that is still discussed, the winged hourglass brand produced its first model equipped with a flyback function in 1925, then filed a patent which was registered on 16 June 1936. As the top of the range model in the Spirit collection, this large and higher-end chronograph now comes back in two warm and luxurious versions, mixing steel and gold, with green or brown tones.?Just like the?Spirit Zulu Time has to be seen as the bigger brother of the classic 3-hand models, the same could be said about the Spirit Flyback next to the classic automatic chronograph. A sportier take on the brand’s vision of a classic, highly precise pilot’s watch, this 42mm model features an external rotating bezel, something that the classic chronog
Video Review: The New Oris Aquis Date Compared to the Old Model
Evolution, not revolution. It’s a well-known strategy that has been applied by so many brands, and not just in the watch industry. The idea of gradually updating/upgrading your most emblematic product without drastically changing it is at the heart of the success of icons such as the Porsche 911, the iPhone, the Nike Air Max and, of course, watches such as the Submariner or the Speedmaster. With the idea of maintaining the emblematic status of a watch, but also improving what can be improved, Oris is applying this evolution-driven strategy to its best-seller dive watch, the contemporary Aquis Date collection. What’s new? What has changed? What has been kept? We have a closer look at this in our latest video review and in this article.?What has changed in a nutshellBecause the differences between the new Oris Aquis Date and the old model are visually hard to spot for a non-trained eye, here’s a quick summary of what to expect with the 2024 collection, before we move to
UNDONE Aqua Dive Watch (automatic, customizable) - Specs & Price
The popularity of microbrands is rapidly spreading and unique mechanical watches are being sold at cut-throat prices. An interesting piece can be had for well under USD 500, but odds are you'll be getting a Chinese movement and parts that are far removed from Switzerland. That doesn't mean that many of these watches are bad products, but from both a reliability and collector’s standpoint, they're often considered a lower tier. UNDONE is a popular microbrand that stands out from the crowd with its customisation options. Colours, cases, dials, hands, straps and even materials can be individually chosen to create a unique timepiece just for you, all for under USD 500. Many of its watches are attractive chronographs – equipped with quartz movements instead of mechanical ones. Their Aqua series of dive watches, however, have proven Seiko automatics inside and are an excellent value proposition for budding enthusiasts or active divers. Dive watches are among my favourite styles a

Introducing: The Green/Rubber TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 44mm
Released in 2020, the Carrera Chronograph 44mm marked the revamp of the collection, which now comprises various models ranging from classic to vintage-inspired, and sporty with this larger model. Equipped with the in-house Heuer 02 movement, it will form next to the sleeker 42mm the cornerstone of the modern Carrera line. When first presented by TAG Heuer, 4 editions were at the heart of this sub-collection, which included black and blue versions with matching ceramic bezels, as well as a green version, yet with steel bezel. But it’s now been replaced by a new version, that not only brings a green ceramic bezel but also a new rubber strap, unseen yet on other models.Even if it is the direct descendant of a watch born in 1963 – indeed, it is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year – the Carrera Chronograph 44mm is all about modernity. Surely, it boasts some classic Carrera design elements, such as the faceted lugs and the overall sharp design of its case and dial, a
