A ravishing black dial with a separate column for the date at the 3'clock position enclaved in a safe cyclops lens is attached. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic 26579CE - Review, Specs & Price
Somehow the information leaked out just before SIHH 2017 - Audemars Piguet would be presenting its first all-ceramic watch (bracelet included) during the Geneva fair, an all-black version of the iconic Perpetual Calendar Royal Oak. Not surprisingly this news immediately created a buzz of excitement amongst collectors, because clearly, this?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic is hot.So what's the big deal? The launch of the newest version of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar (26574) in 2015 had set the tone. Audemars Piguet was rebirthing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, distilling the essence of two brand icons (the Royal Oak and the Perpetual calendar) into a new, modern perspective. This slender timepiece is built around the calibre 5134, an ultra-thin automatic perpetual calendar movement based on the iconic calibre 2120 (found in the original 1972 Royal Oak, once manufactured by LeCoultre, now produced in-house). As always with Audemars Piguet, the 26574 show
Introducing: The Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono Limited Edition, now in Blue
Hamilton's US chapter is marked by its legendary field watches for the US Army, interpreted in the popular Khaki line, and its impressive amount of Hollywood screen debuts. On the horological front, perhaps the most exciting moment in Hamilton's history took place in Switzerland, where it participated in the race to develop the world’s first automatic chronograph movement – known as the Calibre 11 or Chronomatic. Today, Hamilton returns to the fore with a vibrant and colourful interpretation of its maxi-sized Chrono-Matic 50, based on the more complex 1970s Chrono-Matic GMT Count-Down.In 1966, Hamilton acquired the Swiss manufacture Buren and closed its American operations shortly after. The Buren years saw Hamilton's involvement in Project 99, a code name for the development of an automatic chronograph movement uniting Hamilton-Buren, Heuer, Breitling and movement specialist Dubious-Depraz. Although Zenith crossed the finish line in January 1969 with its El Primero calibre
The Collector's Corner - Discussing the IWC Deep One IW3527
The fourth entry in The Collector's Corner sees us returning to IWC, and though the company might best be known for its pilot’s watches, we are taking a plunge into the depths today. There are dive watches, and there are DIVE watches – the latter refers to watches that are so over-engineered that they are basically a piece of survival kit in their own right. The IWC Deep One is a DIVE watch, and it is our subject today. And it's one of the most fascinating, instrumental, and collectable watches of the brand.?BackgroundWe took a look at IWC's history leading up to the quartz crisis in our first post in The Collector’s Corner?before we dove deeper into the pivotal role Gunter Blumlein played in shaping what we know as the modern IWC. Instead of treading that same ground (or water - ok, I'll stop with the puns now!) again, let us look at some lines of sports watches that emerged in this era.? Ad - Scroll to continue with article
First Look: The new Stowa Flieger Original (Incl. Video Review)
Stowa is, without a doubt, one of the most legitimate brands when it comes to Flieger watches. Founded by Walter Storz in 1927 and currently headquartered in Pforzheim, Germany, it is now part of the Tempus Arte group, which also owns Lang & Heyne. But importantly, Stowa was one of only five manufacturers allowed to construct so-called B-Uhren, or Beobachtungsuhren, along with A. Lange & Sohne, Laco, Wempe and IWC. As such, it’s only normal that the brand continues this tradition and currently offers a wide range of pilot watches. But today, with its latest launch, the Stowa Flieger Original, the brand might well be releasing one of its most authentic re-editions.?With close to a century of watchmaking history and as one of the original five brands to build B-uhr watches, it's only natural that the collection still lives on in Stowa's arsenal today. The brand offers it in many styles and materials, but the clear-cut design of the original is always respected. And this new
