Alain Delon's Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo sells for Absolute Record Price - Monochrome Watches
This is unheard of, the vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo, which belonged to French actor Alain Delon, was sold at an auction last week, for an absolute record price of € 68,750 Euro!!This price is even more spectacular, when considering Delon’s Royal Oak Jumbo does not have the much desired dial with the AP-logo at 6 o’clock; something the newly released Jumbo does have. The 5 Best Watches From Geneva Watch Days 2023 - Monochrome Watches
After another week of a smorgasbord of watch news presented in the heart of Geneva, it’s time to have a first look back at what we think are the watches that stood out the most. There are a few trends that could be identified, such as the mix of black and gold in some watches (H. Moser & Cie, Bvlgari, Doxa) and blue finished movements (Armin Strom, MB&F). So, with that in mind, and after some discussions within the MONOCHROME editorial team, here are our top 5 watches from this year’s Geneva Watch Days.Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Carbon & GoldAs said, the combination of black and gold was popular among several brands, including Bvlgari. The brand decked out its wonderful Octo Finissimo Automatic and Perpetual Calendar in forged carbon and rose gold for an intense look on the wrist. The simpler of the two comes with rose gold applied indices, a rose gold mainplate and a plaque set in the baseband. Pretty much everything else is done in carbon, including the
The 2021 Bvlgari Serpenti Spiga Collection - Hands-on, Price
The Bvlgari Serpenti design has enjoyed cult status since the 1940s, blurring the lines between a piece of jewellery and a watch. As one of the oldest collections in Bvlgari's catalogue, it propelled the company into the spotlight with its unique design inspired by the body and head of a snake. The most recent iterations within the collection include the Serpenti Scaglie introduced in 2009, followed by the Tubogas collection in 2010. The Serpenti Spiga watch, however, unveiled for the first time in 2014, shows an even more refined level of craftsmanship with an intricate “matelasse” pattern inspired by a stalk of wheat. The complexity behind the design of the snake watch has not gone unnoticed with this new interpretation inspired by an earlier watch designed from 1957 that featured a square-shaped face and modular bracelet construction. The three new women's Bvlgari Serpenti Spiga watches are comprised by a single coil 18kt rose gold model and two double coil models in 18kt
The AGTZ Twin Tail is Zagatos Tribute To The Legendary Alpine A220 Racing Car
The first test flight of the Concorde, the moon landing, the Woodstock festival, and Monty Python’s Flying Circus first aired on BBC One… just a few of the major historic events that happened in the year 1969. In motorsports, a lot happened too, as Sir Jackie Stewart won his first of three Formula 1 World Driver Championships, Bruce McLaren dominated the Can-Am series in a car built by his own team, and Ford won Le Mans for a fourth consecutive year. But that same year, the French team of Alpine entered the A220, a racing car that might not have won Le Mans that year but has become sort of a cult hero. Most notably for its short-to-longtail conversion from 1968 to 1969, which is now paid tribute to by none other than Zagato.?The famous Italian design studio and coachbuilding company Zagato has been around for more than 100 years and is known for its unique styling. Founded by Ugo Zagato in 1919, the company quickly garnered fame by making lightweight bodies for Alfa Romeo
Hands-On Rado Captain Cook Chronograph Collection
The Captain Cook is, without a doubt, one of Rado's most emblematic watches. Named after the famous British explorer, the model was released in 1962 as a 37mm diver with a water resistance of 200 metres. Since it was relaunched in 2017, several Captain Cook models have been presented, such as the Bronze collection or the High-Tech Ceramic. Today, Rado gives us a new take on the design with a chronograph version, just after a very cool Over-Pole Limited Edition. This useful, popular complication will be welcome by the Captain Cook's fan, all the more that the case lends itself particularly well for this function.?Let’s take a closer look at the Rado Captain Cook Chronograph. This is one of the big news for Rado this year: its marine-inspired Captain Cook is now available as a chronograph. A cool addition to this emblematic collection, which already comprises watches such as the recent diver model, this new edition retains many of the classic Captain Cook's design cues. The round ca
