Celebrating 20 Years of that Very Special Perpetual Calendar by Glashutte Original - Monochrome Watches
As most of you might know, the perpetual calendar is among the most complex mechanisms that can be implemented in a watch. It is the most advanced type of calendar available, one that needs no adjustments, even during leap years. Having one in your collection is a must for any brand that wants to gain access to the exclusive “Haute Horlogerie” club. But not all perpetual calendars are born equal. Glashutte Original’s perpetual calendar, that has just turned 20, ranks up there as one of the most ingenious and legible of its kind. What is a perpetual calendar?QP, for quantieme perpetuel, or perpetual calendar, is the ultimate calendar watch. There are multiple ways to display and calculate the date on a watch; the most basic format is the date window that counts 31 days as a standard for every month (meaning that it needs to be self-advanced at the end of months with 30 or 28 days). Then comes the day-date, the triple calendar or the complete calendar, which are basicall
Baselworld 2019 - Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G (Specs & Price)
The classic Patek Philippe hand-wound chronograph immediately comes to mind to any collector thinking about high-end chronographs. The 5070 (based on a Lemania ebauche for Patek Philippe) was presented in 1998. It was replaced by the reference 5170 and its in-house, CH 29-535 hand-wound movement (that was launched the year before in a ladies’ watch). At Baselworld 2019, Patek has just unveiled a new classic chronograph. A white gold case featuring a box sapphire crystal, round guilloche pushers and three-tier lugs… This is the Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G and it is, unsurprisingly, superbly executed. The reference 5172G is still powered by the caliber CH 29-535, meaning the traditional hand-wound integrated chronograph with column wheel and horizontal clutch. For easier reading of elapsed times, it features instantaneous jumping minutes. Running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it boasts 65 hours of power reserve when the chronograph is disengaged. The architecture of the

Video Review Omega Speedmaster Super Racing and Spirate System
A tiny device that makes a massive change… This is how Omega teased its latest technical development, and the watch to house it. The technical achievement in question has a name, it’s the Spirate System. The watch to feature it too, it’s the Omega Speedmaster Super Racing. And we introduced both to you in an article last week, with quite some details. However, this new device that allows ultra-fine tuning of the rate of the watch isn’t really simple to understand. The result and the way to use the Spirate System in real life, for the watchmakers, is extremely efficient. There is true watchmaking science behind it, however. And in this respect, a video will always be more precise than static images to understand such technical topics. Hence why we decided to bring you all the details about the Speedmaster Super Racing and the Spirate System in a video that you can look at right here, on top of this article.?What is the Spirate system…? It is a new technical
