Interview with Valtteri Bottas about Formula 1, IWC Watches and what may be next
Following yesterday's interview with Lewis Hamilton, it is now time to talk to his teammate, also a driver for Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport: Valtteri Bottas. As a Finn, I had the idea that this interview would turn out quite differently from the interview with superstar Lewis. And unsurprisingly, it did. Same questions as for Lewis, same focus on racing, style, (IWC) watches - as Valtteri also wears driving gloves with the Big Pilot’s Watch printed on them - and what may be next for him. Here we are with the second part of this interview where Valtteri Bottas talks to MONOCHROME. This interview was conducted right before the French Grand Prix in Le Castellet, on the great “Paul Ricard” track. If the race went superbly well for Lewis (P1 in qualification, P1 at the end of the race), things were slightly more difficult for Valtteri Bottas, who had been involved in a crash during lap 1 with Ferrari diver Sebastian Vettel. Inevitably, this had a huge impact on his rac
IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition 150 Years - SIHH 2018 Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
With IWC introducing so many limited-edition references for its 150th anniversary this year (there are 27 in total), it's been hard work picking a favourite. The blue dial Portugieser Chronograph is certainly high on the list, as of course is the Tribute to Pallweber. If I had to choose just one, however, I think it would have to be the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition 150 Years (IW503405). Striking design, practical complexity and a dial I could stare at for hours, it really does offer a lot of watch for the money. As you have already read countless times by now, IWC is celebrating its 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the company has created a limited edition Jubilee collection comprised of more than two dozen references with special white or blue lacquered dials. The finish on the dials is achieved by adding up to 12 coats of transparent lacquer, firing in an oven and then manual flat polishing to create an enamel-like effect. Ma?tres du Temps - Chapter Two - Monochrome Watches
During Baselworld i had a meeting with Ma?tres du Temps. After a warm welcome, Margaret Pane (vice president of Ma?tres du Temps) showed us the movie that was made for Chapter Two. I can really recommend watching this movie (around 10 minutes) as it really captures the essence of this collaboration of the greatest minds of modern watchmaking. The movie has some details that the connaisseur will immediately understand. Like the hands of the church clock, these remind me of the hands of the Speake-Marin Picadilly. After having seen the movie mr. Steven Holzman, the founder and CEO of Ma?tres du Temps, showed us the new masterpiece, Chapter Two. The three master watchmakers who are responsable for Chapter Two are mr. Daniel Roth, mr. Peter Speake-Marin and mr. Roger Dubuis. Chapter Two has an 18K red gold case of 42mm wide, 58mm from lug to lug and is 18mm thick. It features 6 different sapphire crystals with anti reflection coating, three positioned at the front to display the main dial,
SIHH 2014: Introducing the Vacheron Constantin Malte Small Seconds and Malte Tourbillon Openworked - Monochrome Watches
Nearly as old as the art of horology itself, Vacheron Constantin cemented its position as the father of the barrel-shaped watches known as tonneau cases, an iconographic design feature that has stood the test of time for over a century and continues to be a sign of prestige. The “tonneau” Malte collection is without question one of Vacheron’s gifts to the horological industry. With the hallmark of the Geneva seal in place, we know the company’s Malte piece will be truly something special, and this year at SIHH, we aren’t given just one, but rather two new Malte pieces from Vacheron Constantin. These two watches may come from the same line of tonneau cases, but the similarities end there. Having each been created under watchmaking's two different, overarching schools of thought, the new Malte pieces are polar opposites of one another. One favors refinement and balance; the other, sheer horological prowess. We introduce to you the new white gold Malte Small S
