Pre-SIHH 2019 - IWC Pilots Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium (Specs & Price)
It’s official… 2019 will be the year of the Pilot’s Watch at IWC. Don’t expect to see a remodelling of the entire range – that was already done in 2016, with a new Big Pilot and the Mark XVIII, for instance. However, do expect to see some nice new editions, some good old designs brought back to life, and some mechanical improvements. But before the real fireworks start at the SIHH 2019 in January, IWC teases us with four new pieces, including this new Pilot's Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium ref.?IW371815.Some well-known foundationsThis new?Double Chronograph?IW371815 is the proud descendant of two iconic pieces at IWC. Both watches marked the comeback of pilot’s watches for the brand, back in the early 1990s, with the so-called Flieger Chronographs. It is well-known that IWC has a long history of pilot’s watches, mainly with WWII B-Uhr (which inspired the Big Pilot) however, the commercial comeback of pilot’s watches was made
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M now with White Ceramic Dial (Specs & Price)
Last year marked the introduction of the revised Seamaster Diver 300M, a.k.a. the “Bond watch”, a.k.a. Omega’s entry-level diver. Renewed with a slightly larger case, a redesigned dial in ceramic, laser-engraved with the iconic wave pattern, available in multiple colours and materials, the main evolution concerned the arrival of an in-house, Master Chronometer movement. This year, Omega expands the collection with a new White Ceramic dial for the Seamaster Diver 300M.Certainly, this new model isn’t Omega’s main novelty of the year… This role has been given to the chronograph version of this watch. What you see here is a simple visual update, which nevertheless deserves a mention for being rather handsome indeed. The gorgeous Habring2 for THC Erwin 'THC School Piece'
It will come as no surprise that Habring2 is one of our favourite independent watchmakers, as this was the brand of choice for our first-ever MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription presented last year. And given the fact, there have been quite a few collaborations with Habring and others we’ve seen in the past few years, we’re not alone in our fondness for Richard and Maria’s work. The latest in this long line-up of special editions is the Habring2 for THC Erwin ‘THC School Piece’, created for the open and inclusive Hong Kong-based watch collector’s community The Horology Club.?As usual with Habring2, the case looks deceptively simple. A statement of restraint style, it comes in at a very pleasant 38.5mm in diameter and 9mm in height. We can vouch for the Erwin’s wearing comfort as it features the same dimensions (bar the height) as our Montre de Souscription from last year. The changes made to the regular Erwin case are limited to the concave bezel
Squale 2002 - full Monochrome Watches
Tool watches, especially divers, have a diverse and loyal following. Some models have become absolute legends of the watchworld, such as the Submariner or the Omega Seamaster. The small Swiss brand Squale may not ring as many bells as these two, but they can be considered an important historical innovator in their field of expertise. Monochrome has covered the brand before but now we've worn the Squale 2002 quite extensively and we deliver the thorough review of this historically inspired diver's watch.HistoryAs most watch aficionados know, people rarely take dive watches to the limits that they were built to withstand. Apart from professional divers, whose very lives can depend upon the functions of their dive watches (and whose photos are often featured in Squale advertisements), it would be hard to think of anyone who has taken a diver's watch beyond the aquatic depths of their local (or private!) swimming pool or nearby beach. Oris Aquis Date now with 39.5mm and 41.5mm Cases // Specs & Price
If there’s one watch in the Oris collection that needs no introduction, it certainly is the Aquis Date. A robust dive watch, with modern and utilitarian looks, it has been praised as a very competitive option for someone in the need of a no-nonsense diving instrument, which can also be used on land as a daily beater. Mostly available in a relatively large case of 43.5mm, it was probably not suitable for all potential customers. And Oris was aware of this… So, by popular demand, the brand adds a smaller option to its collection, which now includes a 41.5mm version – as well as a new model for the already existing but not fully deployed 39.5mm sub-collection.The Aquis Date is a watch that shouldn’t be overlooked. For whoever is on the hunt for a solid dive watch, with an automatic movement, great quality of construction, modern materials and contemporary design from an established brand with a proven track record and a decent price, it certainly is among the best
