The Elections... for the Watch of the Year and the GPHG that is! - Monochrome Watches
While the race for presidency in the USA is going on until the last minute, we’ll of course focus… on watches! And in the world of watches, we also have elections. Just two weeks ago I attended the gala award ceremony for the election of the Watch of the Year, organised by our friends of Chronos24 in Poland. And this Thursday, when we finally know who’s going to?be the new?tenant of?the White House, is the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve – a.k.a the 2016 Edition of the GPHG. While the first becomes a bit international due to several international jury members – including yours truly –?the latter can best be compared to the Oscars in the world of movies. In Warsaw, Poland, the good folks of Chronos24 hosted the Watch of the Year 2016 gala event together with partners like Esquire Poland, Porsche,?the Polish Business Roundtable Club, Manager MBA Magazine, and the Polish Watch and Clocks Collectors Club. Introducing: The AP Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon RD#3 37mm in White Gold
Considered the precursor of the luxury sports watch category, the Royal Oak turned fifty in 2022. As expected, Audemars Piguet went to town to fete its icon with a host of celebratory models. However, the excitement grew when AP unveiled the first 39mm Jumbo to be fitted with an ultra-thin flying tourbillon (calibre 2968). Officially known as the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3, the 39mm Jumbo was followed by a second steel model in a smaller 37mm case with a vibrant purple Petite Tapisserie dial. Today, AP releases a more luxurious version of its 37mm flying tourbillon in a white gold case gleaming with baguette-cut diamonds in the bezel.AP's extra-thin flying tourbillon movement – calibre 2968 – marked the brand's third Research & Development project. As a complication previously reserved for 41mm diameters, AP's technical team took five years to rethink the architecture to adapt it to the 39mm and 37mm models. Ad - Scroll to continu
First Look: The All-Black Bvlgari Octo Roma Automatic & Chronograph
Ancient Rome is a constant well of inspiration at Bulgari that deftly transforms architectural motifs from the past into fresh, stylish designs. The dynamic geometry of the Octo Roma, released in 2012 and refreshed in 2023, is said to have been inspired by the octagonal coffering found on the vaults of the 4th-century Basilica of Maxentius in the Roman Forum. Now in its sportier, more robust and less angular format, the Octo Roma revisits two models - a time-and-date and a chronograph - dressed from head-to-toe in black. An iconic Bulgari collection, the Octo Roma was the departure point for the record-breaking Octo Finissimo legion. Revisited over the years, the latest facelift corresponds to 2023, when the Octo Roma’s case became less angular and more rounded. The idea was to position the Octo Roma as an alternative to the ultra-thin Octo Finissimo, offering more robust, sportier cases and increased versatility thanks to the quick-release interchangeable strap system.

Six years ago, the Chopard L.U.C Full Strike was awarded the Aiguille d'Or prize at the GPHG, thus becoming the proud bearer of the best watch of the year title. Introduced in 2016, the Chopard L.U.C Full Strike was the first minute repeater produced by the manufacture, and it was a timepiece worthy of the highest praise, for it was a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, exhibiting exceptional construction, decoration, and a crystal-clear sound. Recently, L.U.C Full Strike became available in a new exclusive limited edition - in a blue sapphire case. The new Chopard L.U.C Full Strike Blue Sapphire is the evolution of the watch that the brand revealed last year, the L.U.C Full Strike Sapphire, with the 42.5 mm case, and crown with its integrated minute repeater pusher made of sapphire. The new IWC Pilots Watch Mark XVIII - The Definition of a Classic Re-visited - Monochrome Watches
It is an undeniable fact that the IWC Mark (Mk) is one of the most important military/aviation watches ever created. What started as a life saving tool watch for the navigators and flying officers of the British RAF transformed, as all mechanical watches have, into an elegant wristwatch, which in parallel keeps all the qualities of its ancestors. In many ways the latest versions of the Mark constitute THE excellent ordinary watch. There are more than meets the eye here. Pure, unobtrusive and long lasting the mark series have always defined how a proper wristwatch should be made and this year IWC proudly introduces a new variant, the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII.The LineageThe first wristwatch from IWC specifically designed for Aviators was the originator of the Mark series, produced in 1936. The Spezialuhr fur Flieger (Special Pilot's Watch) had a black dial, high contrast luminous hands, and a rotating bezel, which helped its user to measure elapsed time accurately up to one hour. It
