SIHH 2017 - 5 Questions To Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne (VIDEO) - Monochrome Watches
Walter Lange, A. Lange & Sohne Honorary Chairman, died on January,17th, 2017, the day right after we recorded this interview. We’d like to dedicate this very modest movie to this great name of the watchmaking industry and a highly respectable person. Bravo! We’ll miss you Mister Lange. As some might say, the show must go on… But?how futile?and material?this would be, the SIHH is about watches and A. Lange & Sohne again has a great, impressive and highly desirable collection of watches, including the Tourbograph Perpetual, the Zeitwerk Decimal Strike and the 1815 Annual Calendar. And who could be better than our good friend?Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne, to explain these SIHH 2017 novelties. Here is our conversation with him. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
When Omega Re-Issues The Speedmaster Mark II, Monochromes Knights Sit ¡®Round The Table To Duke It Out! - Monochrome Watches
From January to April, the world of watchmaking is beating at the rhythm of press releases, before SIHH and Baselworld. Yesterday, we've received from Omega an interesting piece of news, the presentation of the Speedmaster Mark II re-issue. At Monochrome's offices (not that far from Wayne Tower) this kicked-up more than just a little dust. It set off a mini debate between young lion (Brice) and Middle-Aged Lion (Mario) [Brice - see what I did there! You're in lower case!]. Because Monochrome-Watches is more than just words on website, it's a team, with its members and their own preferences and tempers. So let's present you the new Omega Speedmaster re-issue in a different way. Ad - Scroll to continue with article The new Omega's watch is a nice tribute to one of the greatest piece of Speedmaster range, and it's a vast catalog since 1957. Using the exact same des
Buying Guide: A Collection Of 6 Tantalizing Jumping Hour Watches
Following our Buying Guide of watches that go “DING” or even produce an entire orchestra of dings to signal the time, we’re now shifting focus to a very different but equally captivating complication, the Heures Sautantes, or Jumping Hours! This departure from the typical indication of time often relies on a hand or disc to show the correct hour for the full hour before making a jump to display the next. It sounds easy, but it is rather complex to master, as it demands a certain degree of energy built up over the course of 60 minutes, which then gets released in a controlled manner to make the jump. Now that we’ve gotten the technical principle out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the coolest examples around!d.m.h. jump hourThe Jump Hour by dingemans mechanische horloges, the one-man-brand from the Netherlands, is perhaps the simplest form of a jumping hours watch in this list, but by no means the least interesting. With a compact stainless steel c
The gorgeous Habring2 for THC Erwin 'THC School Piece'
It will come as no surprise that Habring2 is one of our favourite independent watchmakers, as this was the brand of choice for our first-ever MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription presented last year. And given the fact, there have been quite a few collaborations with Habring and others we’ve seen in the past few years, we’re not alone in our fondness for Richard and Maria’s work. The latest in this long line-up of special editions is the Habring2 for THC Erwin ‘THC School Piece’, created for the open and inclusive Hong Kong-based watch collector’s community The Horology Club.?As usual with Habring2, the case looks deceptively simple. A statement of restraint style, it comes in at a very pleasant 38.5mm in diameter and 9mm in height. We can vouch for the Erwin’s wearing comfort as it features the same dimensions (bar the height) as our Montre de Souscription from last year. The changes made to the regular Erwin case are limited to the concave bezel
Two affordable Full Calendar Watches from Montblanc and Baume & Mercier - Monochrome Watches
The last days of the SIHH turned out rather strange for me, as I was down with a severe flu, and unable to publish anything about the new timepieces. In the coming weeks I’ll publish the most outstanding, and remarkable pieces. I’ve had time to do some more hands-on photos, and the reviews will?follow over the?next weeks.?One of the remarkable introductions, or actually two introductions, came from?Montblanc and Baume & Mercier. These two brands, both part of the Richemont Group, each launched a very nice automatic timepiece with a full calendar. As the dial layout already gives away, both seem to be equipped with the same calendar module. Day and month are shown through a rectangle aperture, that is placed just below the brand’s name. The date is indicated as so-called pointer date, meaning the long hand points to the date that is printed on the dial’s perimeter. And as a little extra, both watches feature a moon phase indication.?Both watches are priced be
