VIDEO - The Seamaster Chronicles - Part 1, The History of the Omega Seamaster
Last year, we introduced one of our largest projects ever, the Speedmaster Chronicles. Five videos with five men, including James Ragan (the man who turned the Speedmaster into the Moonwatch), Omega’s CEO, a well-known auctioneer, Mr?Speedy Tuesday and an?anonymous?collector, who all shed their light on one of the most iconic watches ever created, the Omega Speedmaster a.k.a. Moonwatch.?Today we’re starting with another big video project, namely “The Seamaster Chronicles” – and you probably guessed it… we will have an in-depth look at Omega’s diving icon, the Seamaster. In a series of three videos, we will explain how a watch that sprouted from the watches that Omega delivered to the Royal Air Force during WWII, has become so much more. We’ ve seen many watch brand introducing new timepieces, usually limited edition and some times one-off’s, to highlight their relationship with a car brand, a football club, or, like now, a film festival. What we haven’t seen before is that a brand uses such an introduction to launch an entirely new movement. And that’s exactly what IWC does, now they introduce the ‘piece unique’ IWC?Portofino Monopusher Edition Tribeca Film Festival 2015, which showcases the new Portofino hand-wound 8-days movement with an integrated mono-pusher chronograph. Oh, and you can own this ‘piece unique’ because it will be sold through the online auction by Christie's.One of the virtues of using a large movement is that it’s possible to integrate additional complications. Until now IWC’s Hand-Wound 8-Days movement, a large movement, featured a small off centre second display (at 6 o’clock), a power reserve indicator (at 9 o’clock) and a
Hands-On - Seiko Prospex Samurai Collection for 2017 (SRPB49K1-SRPB51K1-SRPB53K1-SRPB55K1) - Specs & Price
Few brands can claim to have watches that are so iconic that they are actually known after monikers. and Omega are amongst them – think “Paul Newman”, “Bart Simpson” or “Deep Blue” – but Seiko is also on par in this “nickname game”. Many of their watches have been dubbed with funky sobriquets, as for instance the “Turtle” or the “62Mas”. Another one, more modern, is the “Samurai”, known to be a sporty watch with a high quality-to-value ratio. After a discreet comeback with the (sold-out) Lagoon Limited Edition, aficionados?will be pleased to see that the?Seiko Prospex Samurai is back in the 2017 collection, and now in non-limited editions. As a reminder, the Seiko Samurai (you can see an old example below) was launched in 2004 and was produced for a few years, until being removed from the catalogue. Already at that time, it was a rather large, sturdy, 200m water resistant and modernly-desig
