There's been no shortage of truly spectacular watches this year, but I doubt we have seen the end of it. Companies spread out releases across the entire 12 months, so who knows what splendour could be lurking on the horizon. Last week, Omega introduced a new Bond-themed Seamaster Diver 300M, inspired by the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. When we posted this watch on Instagram, the reactions were telling. One comment read: I'm a die-hard Omega fan (own 3) and I do not like this watch. There's 4 colour combo's going on with it. One other comment read: Too much. () Looks like brainstorming in a Kindergarten. So did the comments below the article we published, with press images, right after the watch was presented. A few weeks ago, Seiko announced the introduction of a new size within the classic 5 Sports SKX Series – understand by that dive-inspired models bringing back the flair of the emblematic SKX007 watch. Baselworld, the world's largest watch and jewellery fair, appoints a new Managing Director, Michel Loris-Melikoff - Monochrome Watches
The man tasked with reshaping Baselworld to meet the current challenges is a 53-old lawyer who started his career in Private Banking. He was previously with the MHC group (the company organising Baselworld) in Lausanne. The longstanding Managing Director of Baselworld, Sylvie Ritter, has decided to step down from her position at the MCH Group after 15 years. The transfer of management will take place on 1 July 2018.Baselworld needs to rethink itself and how it operates. If the industry has seen business improve over the past months after a prolonged downturn, Baselworld faces great challenges with the withdrawal of numerous exhibitors (several of them now showing at SIHH), the smaller size of the fair and increasing criticism about the organisation.
