Introducing The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 Shikkoku Japan-Only Edition
Chopard is out to conquer the Land of the Rising Sun with an exclusive 100-piece edition of its Alpine Eagle watch. By far the darkest iteration of the brand’s luxury sports watch, the dial is inspired by a jet-black tone known in Japan as shikkoku. This intense black colour is obtained from the millenary Japanese lacquerware technique known as urushi. Promoted by Chopard’s ambassador, the Japanese rugby player Keita Inagaki, the Alpine Eagle 41?Shikkoku Japan-Only breaks rank and eliminates the date indication to preserve the brooding monochromatic mood of the dial.ShikkokuAlthough Chopard has produced dials with urushi lacquer, this Alpine Eagle is not made using this ancestral technique. Instead, it adopts the signature black colour associated with urushi lacquerware. As the darkest shade of black – a predecessor of Vantablack, if you like – the Japanese associate its impenetrable darkness with the idea of mystery, simplicity and tranquillity associated with
Value Proposition - Delma Continental Chronograph (Hands-On, Price)
Throwback chronographs are everywhere these days with pricing all over the map. At the upper end, there are truly iconic pieces like the Breguet Type XX and Daytona. A wide variety of brands offer more affordable options for us common folk - the Hamilton Intra-Matic Automatic Chronograph and Longines Avigation BigEye come to mind. Delma recently introduced an intriguing, vintage-inspired chronograph that harkens back to its 1960's bicompax models. Available in a surprising amount of dial and case colour combinations, the new Continental Chronograph is a value proposition for those seeking that mid-century vibe without breaking the bank.?BackgroundDelma is among the increasingly rare independent, family-owned brands with a history going back almost a century. Founded in 1924 in Lengnau, Switzerland by brothers Adolf and Albert Gilomen, the company was originally called Thuya. The Delma name was first used in 1933 for pocket and wristwatches and became the brand's official name in 1966

Please welcome the?Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Collection now with magnetite grey dials and pink gold cases, for the Spherotourbillon, the Quantieme Lunaire and the Chronograph. The Dual-Wing Concept behind the?Jaeger-LeCoultre DuometreBehind the?Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre is a lot of?interesting research around?chronometry and precision. With the Duometre, Jaeger set out to tackle?recurring issue, well known in watchmaking: any complication added to a movement (anything that is not displaying the hours, minutes or seconds) naturally uses up some of the power provided by the barrel. This energy consumption disrupts the constant supply that
Introducing The All-Black Certina DS Action Diver 43mm (Live Pics & Price)
With the advent of Certina‘s Double Security concept in the late 1950s, robust dive watches at prices that won’t sink your bank account have been the mainstay of this Swiss brand. The DS Action Diver is Certina’s classic, fully equipped diver, a worthy heir to the brand’s DS (Double Security) concept first incorporated inside an automatic shock-resistant and 200m water-resistant watch in 1959. A perfect all-terrain adventure watch, Certina revisits its 43mm DS Action Diver in an all-black wetsuit.Certina’s Double Security technology of 1959, which relied on a series of O-ring seals on the setting stem and crown and a reinforced caseback, marked a big step forward in strengthening the armour of its watches to protect the mechanism from external aggressions. Sixty-four years later, the DS Concept is still going strong and ensures the DS Action Diver meets the official ISO 6425 dive watch standards. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
