Omegas Gold Medal Olympic Timekeeping Equipment - Monochrome Watches
It's been touch and go since the outset of the pandemic, but the Tokyo 2020 Olympics finally reached the starting line on 23 July 2021, albeit a year late. Marking Omega's 29th time as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games, 400 tonnes of state-of-the-art equipment, 200km of cables and optical wire, 530 timekeepers and on-site professionals have been dispatched to Tokyo. The mission is to ensure that all 11,091 athletes taking part in the 339 events in 33 sports will benefit from precision timekeeping in events that are often secured by milliseconds that the human eye cannot detect. Timing has come a long way since Omega made its first official appearance in 1932 at the Los Angeles Olympics. Capitalising on the world's attention on the Tokyo Olympics, it's a good moment to review Omega's impressive contributions to the world of timekeeping, and in the same breath, acknowledge my indebtedness to Omega's comprehensive volume dedicated to its timekeeping breakthroughs in Great Olympic M
Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent (Authentic Fabric Dials & Straps)
With Hublot, the word Fusion is not just the name of a watch. It is much more than that. it is a motto, a proper guideline for the design. Fusion refers to the concept of mixing materials, something that has always been in the DNA of the bold manufacture. Fusion of gold and ceramic, fusion of metals and rubber, fusion of gold and patinated leather, fusion of everything that you can imagine and more… Hublot dares to integrate in watches materials that you would have never thought about. And they did it again, with the?Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent, using authentic fabric dials & straps, the result of a collaboration with the highly creative?enfant terrible?Lapo Elkann. This is not the first time that these two terrible children of the luxury industry do team up to create watches. Since 2014, two collections have been born from the partnership between Hublot, Italia Independent and Lapo Elkann. Although both of the previous collections were based on the bold, masculin
Watches and Formula 1 - Episode 4 - TAG Heuer & Red Bull
Let's be honest, this past season of Formula 1 was not the most exciting between the usual suspects up front, just like the last three seasons have basically seen one team dominate the whole year. The battle within that team however was particularly exciting, right down to the final meters of the final lap of the final race. Amidst all that internal drama however a few teams and driver's still managed to steal the absolute show! The talk of the town and the team and driver on everyone's mind: Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen! This young Dutchman surprised everyone by pulling off a seemingly impossible achievement; becoming the youngest-ever Grand Prix winner. Along with his teammate, he was the only driver outside of Mercedes this season to clinch a victory, doing things on the track that no one has ever seen before! All of that is here to remind us about the partnership that goes along: TAG Heuer and Red Bull Racing - and the long history of Heuer into F1 timekeeping.Personal opinio
First Look: The Olive-Green Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton
With its Captain Cook, Rado, a brand part of the Swatch Group, is merging two important sides of its history. First, this watch collection revived one of the brand’s greatest watches of the past, a 1960s dive watch with a rather peculiar yet attractive design. Second, it is used as a vessel to showcase the company’s leading know-how in high-tech materials (the brand labels itself as The Master of Materials), in particular ceramics. This skilful blend of retro vibes and high-tech materials has recently been demonstrated with the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, which is now available in an unexpectedly cool mix of olive-green ceramic and PVD rose gold accents.?The Rado Captain Cook started its life as a classic take on the dive watch, yet with a slightly original design. Born in 1962, it was revamped in 2017 as a limited edition, then followed in 2019 by yet another 37mm limited edition – both watches faithful to the original concept and design, made out of sta
