Hands-On With the Elegant Yet Accessible Longines Presence Heritage
The Heritage collection is, without a doubt, one of my favourites in the Longines range, and for many years I have enjoyed sharing my admiration whenever the topic came up. The history of this truly great brand dates back to 1832, with vast archives to dive into. Thus, for the Heritage Collection, there are plenty of delightful models to replicate or serve as inspiration to please today’s customers. The Longines Presence Heritage, a slightly overlooked model (to say the least), honours the brand’s past and present with this lovely reference in rose gold. And there are many things to talk about regarding the design, but it’s also one of the best value proposition models the brand has to offerOne of the particularities that contribute to my appreciation for Longines is the meetings I had over the years with Walter von Kanel, who worked at the company for over 30 years before retiring from the post of president at the age of 79. I could say he was responsible for teachin
Spotted - Hans Dieter Potsch, Chairman of Porsche SE, With IWC and Omega
For our latest instalment of “Spotted”, we are featuring Han Dieter Potsch. Potsch is the Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche Automobil Holding SE. And on his wrist are watches that are linked to the cars he produces or to the world of motor racing (surprisingly…), by Omega and IWC/Porsche Design.Porsche SE is owned by the Porsche and Piech families, descendants of Porsche founder Ferdinand Porsche. Porsche SE holds a controlling interest in the Volkswagen Group which owns car manufacturers such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Volkswagen. Potsch is also Supervisory Board Chairman of the Volkswagen Group. Two of the watches owned by Mr Potsch caught my eye. The first is a lesser-seen IWC piece with a Porsche connection. Not just any old IWC, but one designed by Porsche Design and manufactured by IWC. Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, a grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. The watch in question is the Reference 3504 Porsche De
Baselworld 2015 - Omega Speedmaster 57 Co-Axial revisited with Broad Arrow Hands and new dial - Specs & Price - Monochrome-Watches
The Omega Speedmaster is an icon among the icons. First introduced in 1957 under the reference CK2915, it had been updated several times in its life to now have a slightly different case and dial. However, back in 2013, Omega decided to introduce a re-issue of the very first Speedy, an upgraded edition that was keeping the overall same look with a modern twist and innovative movement. This nice watch was unfortunately not as faithful to the orignal as?the collectors wanted to. This is now corrected, with the?Omega Speedmaster 57 Co-Axial revisited with Broad Arrow Hands and a new dial (ref.?331.10.42.51.01.002).The 2013 Omega Speedmaster 57 was using the same recipe as?the Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial introduced last year, meaning a vintage inspired watch but not a simple reedition. Instead of just recreating the exact same watch, Omega chose to modernize the design – but still using some vintage gimmicks – and to bring into the case a modern, efficient and reliable
SIHH 2015 - Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Double Flying Tourbillon - Hands-on with Live photos - Monochrome Watches
For 2015, Roger Dubuis focusses heavily on skeletonization, as becomes apparent with the introduction of the Excalibur Spider Double Flying Tourbillon. Every single watch prior to these new releases has been produced according to the strict specifications of the Poin?on de Geneve, and the new models are no exception. The Spider offers exceptional Horological techniques, with a superb contemporary design. The new Astral Gateway, as Roger Dubuis has been teasing through a series of videos leading up to SIHH 2015, consists of several extensively skeletonized timepieces within the Excalibur collection. We already showed you the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Skeleton Automatic, featuring a skeletonized micro-rotor. The Excalibur Spider Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon goes a step or two beyond that, in terms of aesthetics and complexity. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Editorial: Why Boldness Matters by Virtue Of The Tudor Black Bay Chronograph Flamingo Blue
Let me state something that I know will spark some people; as a watch-loving community, we’ve become far too negative in our opinions. Especially when it comes to social media, it’s easy to discard something you don’t like or even ridicule or bash. It’s a fairly common thing to express one’s (negative) opinion in such a way and state it as factual instead of opening up to discussions. And that’s a bad thing. Live and let live, or agree to disagree seems to be a dwindling character trait. Case in point: expressiveness in watches. Call it boldness, creativity or audacity; it’s often met with very negative fanfare, and I don’t get that. So I thought, why not sample a watch that’s quite in-your-face colourful and make a case for opening up to expressiveness from now on! , the King of conservatism? It’s often said that some brands employ an “evolution over revolution” strategy, where watches are fine-tuned rather than co
