Nomos CEO Uwe Ahrendt On The Significance Of The Brand's Glashutte Origins
For more than 30 years, Nomos has been part of the monumental effort to resurrect the German watchmaking tradition that once thrived in the Glashutte region in the easternmost part of the country. The region is home to a dozen or so brands, from relatively affordable names like Union Glashutte and Nomos?to ultra-high-end like A. Lange & Sohne and Moritz Grossmann, all honouring the Glashutte watchmaking heritage. Nomos is known for its lighthearted yet sobre Bauhaus-inspired design ethos and has amassed a strong community following over the years. Located in the town’s old train station, we recently visited the brand to check out some novelties and interview the brand’s CEO, Uwe Ahrendt, about the importance of this heritage.Robin Nooij, MONOCHROME Watches – The fall of the Berlin Wall was a pivotal movement for the Glashutte region. Can you explain what this meant for the people and how it created the foundations for a brand like Nomos to build on? Ad

Weekly Watch Photo - Chopard Classic Racing Collections - Monochrome Watches
Chopard has a long-standing relationship with motorsports, and most collectors are aware of the brand’s partnership with the Mille Miglia classic car rally. Since 2002, Chopard has also been the official timekeeper of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, a biannual event in which classic ’70s race cars race through the Monegasque streets. We aren’t surprised that Chopard dedicated several collections to their relationship with racing events and that they, lucky for us, made for some very cool photos. Recently Chopard introduced a new collection, is the Superfast collection, that features several new in-house movements. This is the Superfast Chrono in 18 carat rose gold. Introducing the AkriviA Heure Minute Tourbillon Stainless Steel with hand-made dial - Monochrome-Watches
It’s not often that we see a brand coming to the market with their first watch that comprises both a tourbillon and a monopusher chronograph, with a fully hand-finished in-house movement – but it’s exactly what AkriviA did with this watch. Because it’s seems difficult?to develop?an even more complicated watch (especially for a small and young brand), Akrivia is now coming with a simpler watch. Well, simple but still quite a watch, as we’re talking about the?AkriviA Heure Minute Tourbillon.Brief?reminder about Akrivia:“(Akrivia) was founded in 2011 by Rexhep Rexhepi, a young master watchmaker with an interesting educational background which includes an apprenticeship at Patek Philippe at the age of 14, and working as movement developer for BNB Concepts (which went bust in 2010, then was partially bought by Hublot, resulting in the Hublot Cle du Temp).” The first watch to be revealed by AkriviA was an impressive one that we covered last year, aft

Junghans, the German watch company, celebrates the 60th anniversary of Bauhaus artist Max Bill's first line of mechanical watches for the brand in 1961. Instead of commemorating the date with one watch, Junghans is releasing a collector's set of three watches limited to 1,060 units worldwide. The Junghans Max Bill Edition 60?is comprised of an automatic, a regulator and a small seconds. Brief backgroundJunghans, the famous German watch company, was founded in 1861 by Erhard Junghans in Schramberg (Black Forest). Max Bill (1908-1994), a Swiss architect, sculptor, painter, and product and graphic designer, was commissioned by Junghans to design a kitchen clock, the Exacta of 1957. As a former student at the Bauhaus in Dessau from 1927-1928, Max Bill's Exacta clock - leading to a 1958 table clock and eventually wristwatches in 1961 - was an expression of purist aesthetics an
