In-Depth - The Vacheron Constantin 1955 Cornes de Vache, And Milestone Vintage Chronographs From The Museum
Based on the vintage reference 6087, a watch launched in 1955, the modern so-called Cornes de Vache is, without doubt, one of the most sought-after Vacheron Constantin Chronographs. Available only in platinum or pink gold until very recently, a new steel version has recently been introduced but given the limited production and great demand, it is very difficult to find. On the occasion of a visit to the Manufacture, we have taken a look at some milestone watches from the Vacheron Constantin museum collections to better understand the genesis of this superb chronograph.POCKET CHRONOGRAPHSAs you would expect from the oldest watchmaker that has been in production without interruption, Vacheron Constantin has a rich history in chronographs (and in watches in general). The company produced dead-beat seconds pocket watches, often regarded as the ancestor of the chronograph, as early as 1819 – with an independent dead-beat seconds powered by a dedicated gear train.?Vacheron Constantin
Hublot Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Paris Saint-Germain (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
I’m actually amazed, and kind of speechless now I realise this… It took the watch industry a long time, decades in fact, before there finally is a watch that can be called the ultimate football watch. In the 1960’s and 1970’s there were some chronographs with a 45-minute register, in stead of the usual 60-minute register. But that’s as far as it goes, in terms of football watches (for the non-football peeps… each half of the match lasts 45 minutes). Last year Hublot introduced the very first proper football watch, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde, and now they come with a limited edition for the Parisian football club Paris Saint-Germain.While the 1960’s and 1970’s 45-minute chronographs were some sort of attempt to have a watch that was able to measure the 45 minute of each?half of a football match, there was never one that also enabled you to measure the extra time of a match, that is added by the referee. Several years ago Hublo
The Battle of Automatic Chronographs - IWC vs. Glashutte Original (the White Dial Edition) - Monochrome Watches
This face-to-face article wasn’t something we actually planned to do… But recently, after shooting photos for the review of the Glashutte Senator Chronograph Panorama Date, I put the watch on my desk, right next to another chronograph… A white dial IWC Portugieser Chronograph 3714. And that’s how the idea for this battle of automatic chronographs emerged. Two slightly Germanic-looking watches, with white dials, elegant but not over-dressed designs, from two of the most respected brands. This is not going to be an easy battle!?In the left corner, the modern icon in IWC’s collection, the classic Portugieser Chronograph reference 3714 with white dial and blue indexes – the one with a Valjoux-based movement. In the right corner, another desirable watch, much more recent, with solid arguments regarding its movement, the GO Senator Chronograph in steel with a casual white dial. As with all our face-to-face articles, we reviewed both models first – he
