In-Depth - The Difference Between a Chronometer and a Chronograph Explained
This “chronograph vs. chronometer” question is an important?one. Certainly, most of our recurring readers at MONOCHROME?have the answer to this question. But what about the others, the ones who want to start their horological journey and are coming to terms with the jargon? As we still get asked this question quite often, we thought that it would be good to clarify the situation and to provide an answer to “what’s the difference between a chronometer and a chronograph?”Chronometer vs. Chronograph – Two completely different conceptsThe first thing to establish when addressing the question of the difference between a chronometer and a chronograph is that we are talking about two completely different concepts. They are not the same. But they are not opposite. The terms chronometer and chronograph are precise nomenclatures, with precise definitions. This Omega Seamaster 300M is a chronometer watch.A chronometer gauges the performance of a watch and vouche
The Collector's Series - The Horophile and his glowing Sarpaneva Northern Lights - Monochrome Watches
This is not the first time that the Indy brand, Sarpaneva has featured on the Collector’s Series. We covered our Executive Editor Frank Geelen's here. Sarpaneva watches are all designed in-house, by Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva himself. He creates bold watches in small numbers. He is generally known for his stunning moonphase (weather the face is happy or sad is up for debate, but that's beside the point!) and his pinion-shaped case with multi-layer dials. This week, we have Mister The Horophile (the Instagram addicts will know who we're talking about) that introduces to us his own, brand new Sarpaneva Northern Lights. This week our guest comes from a family of watch enthusiasts. Given that he lives and works in the home of watchmaking, Switzerland, which?should be no surprise. Amr Sindi is the young Saudi Arabian gentleman behind the Horophile page (@thehorophile on Instagram and here on the web). Before we got into the nitty gritty of the interview itself, Amr mentioned t
IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau - REVIEW with exclusive photos, specs and price - Monochrome Watches
This year IWC introduced an entirely renewed Aquatimer collection. That literary means that ALL Aquatimer models have been redesigned and now feature the same design cues, and, more importantly, functional feats like the new Dive-Safe system; an externally operational internal dive-time bezel (still with us?) We tried the IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition ?Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau for some weeks for this review and liked it more and more during the test period. The IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau (a mouthful) is a special edition, based on the Aquatimer Chronograph. It features a?recognizable blue dial that previous ?Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau also had. It commemorates Cousteau's fantastic voyages and films that made millions aware of the beauty of the underwater world. His movies educated people around the world, about the underwater world, in times that most people didn’t have a clue about what was going on under that blue surfac
Only Watch 2017 - F.P.Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante
After the unique Patek Philippe 5208T for Only Watch 2017 we’ve just introduced to?you, you might think that you’ve seen the best of the upcoming charity auction… but you’d be wrong, as?F.P.Journe will have a unique?Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante (the first split-seconds he has ever created), with the usual tantalum / blue chrome combination. And that is quite something! For Only Watch 2015, F.P.Journe previously?proffered a visually stunning watch, the Tourbillon Souverain Bleu in tantalum. However, as beautiful this watch was, and even if it did reach an impressive CHF?550,000, it was not an entirely new watch per se,?but rather a visual update of an existing model. For 2017,?F.P.Journe goes much, much?further, as not only has he introduced a new and unique watch, but notably one which also features?an entirely new movement – and?when you know the genius behind this brand, then you have good reason to be?excited! First Look: The new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40mm in Rose Gold PVD
60 different references… This is how wide Tissot’s best-selling collection, the sporty-elegant integrated PRX watch, has become in about 4 years. Ranging from compact and affordable quartz models to more expensive watches with gold fluted bezels and chronograph movement, and basically everything you can imagine in between (even a forged carbon edition), you’d think the PRX collection is soon to come full circle. Well, the brand is here to prove you wrong as it’s just released a new, luxurious-looking, but accessibly-priced version of the classic PRX Powermatic 80 40mm, now coated with rose gold PVD, paired with a waffle-style blue dial. Quite a cool combo, in all fairness.?At this point in the lifecycle of the Tissot PRX, I believe that it isn’t necessary to remind you what we’re talking about… The PRX is the brand’s take on the integrated sports watch category, inspired by a 1978 model, modernized to current tastes and accessible enough
