3 Cool Finds - 2 Complicated Rectangular Watches from Ulysse Nardin & Corum, and a Rare Early Panerai from the Vendome-Era - Monochrome Watches
Two weeks ago, we started a new series of article, a series focusing on relatively recent watches for sale that we believe to be highly interesting, the 5 Cool Finds?articles. This week, we continue with the third instalment of our market finds, in collaboration with auctioneer?Catawiki. Once again, the story is simple. Three?watches that we believe to have something special, something unique and again, watches that can be a great deal for collectors. Here is our expert Ilias' selection of 3 pieces, including an archetypal modern (but early) Panerai and 2 complicated rectangular watches from Ulysse Nardin and?Corum.Corum Goldenbridge PlatinumMontres Corum SARL, commonly referred to as Corum, is a Swiss watchmaker based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton of Neuchatel. Founded in 1955, it is best known for creating high-quality, exclusive watches, many of which are limited editions. The benchmark model series for Corum is its Admiral’s Cup, a sports watch inspired by regatta. However, we
Bored WIth Plain Dials We Take A Look At Some Of The Coolest Alternatives
Watchmaking is often touted to be about creativity and expressiveness, but when it comes to dials, brands tend to be a touch conservative. Simple silver, black or blue, however beautifully crafted they are, can be a bit, well, plain. And to some perhaps even boring. Luckily there are brands who dare to break those boundaries of materials and opt for something spectacularly different. With that in mind, here’s a look at a series of watches with the coolest alternative dial materials around.Omega Constellation MeteoritePerhaps the most conventional of the unconventional materials in this selection is the meteorite dials found in the new Omega Constellation 41mm collection. Despite being seen in multiple brands and watches, there’s always something fascinating about them. And Omega being Omega, they’ve gone the extra mile to colour-match Muonionalusta meteorite dials to the material of the case, from stainless steel to Moonshine Gold and even Sedna Gold (other dial colou
Hands-on The New Seiko Prospex SRP series - ref. SRP773K1, SRP775K1, SRP777K1 & SRP779K1 (live photos, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
A friend of mine who is an underwater photographer, fisherman, diver, and a watch lover once tried to explain me why he loves dive-watches. Surprisingly, he referred only very briefly to the heavyweights ( , Omega, etc.) and instead he focused mainly on Seiko. He told me that you must be nuts or very rich in order to dive for a specific job (hunt fish for instance) wearing your expensive dive watch; because 9 out of 10 times you gonna scratch it at the very the least if not more. For the friend of mine, if you have a strong and professional link with the sea, you have to?wear a cheap (relatively speaking) but highly reliable, rugged, professional-oriented?dive-watch. That's the essence of a diving watch for him and in this specific?market, Seiko almost dominates the competition. And as the successor of?the iconic Seiko SKX007, the new Seiko Prospex SRP series has to be seriously considered. TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 Green Dial - Hands-On, Specs & Price
TAG Heuer is hugely popular for its automotive heritage and its racing chronographs. But the brand also has rich nautical and water-sport credentials, in particular with the Aquaracer dive watch collection. Launched in 2004/2005 as a direct descendant of the 2000 series, the Aquaracer line is now one of the pillars of the TAG Heuer portfolio. It comprises a variety of relatively accessible models. TAG Heuer has made a new addition to the collection with an emerald green Aquaracer Calibre 5.As you would have guessed, the most distinctive feature of this new take on the classic Aquaracer is its eye-catching vivid green dial. If colours are a matter of personal taste, it certainly brings a fresh, modern touch to the model - something quite different from the usual black of deep-blue dial. The dial's horizontal striped pattern is paired with luminescent markers and hands providing adequate contrast. The date indication at 3 o’clock is magnified by a cyclops lens. Ad - Scro
Hands-On - Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork (Specs & Price)
Bianchet is a new horological independent watchmaker founded by Rodolfo and Emmanuelle Festa Bianchet, located in the Neuchatel area. Following a career in Fintech, the Festa Bianchet couple embarked on a new entrepreneurial project, following their passion and desire to create their own watches. On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, we were able to meet them and take a look at their first creation, the Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork. When presenting his first horological creation, Rodolfo Festa Bianchet immediately mentions his love for tonneau-shaped watches and his fascination for the work of the Italian mathematician Fibonacci and for the Golden Ratio (1.618). Their idea was to create a modern timepiece, applying the golden ratio to design not only the case (and its profile) but also the movement (shaping the different bridges).
