A flawless mixture of elegance and charisma - the Seiko SBXB167 from the Astron Sports Line Dual Time GPS Solar is ¨C as the name suggests ¨C a timepiece that runs on solar energy. The timepiece can soak up energy from literally any light source available, and when fully charged, can survive in the dark for a couple of months ¨C give or take. The timepiece has a very pretty combination of color scheme: blue, black, grey, and white. The central blue dial houses not one or two, rather four sub-dials making the grand total of five dials ¨C of varying sizes. Though the timepiece may seem complicated at first glance, however, once one gets used to it, it is very addictive.

Young Talent Antonin Falk Shows Us His Montre decole, With A Very Special Bumper Automatic Mechanism - Monochrome Watches
Here, at MONOCHROME, we are always pleased to present young watchmakers and their work, not only because they do represent the future of the independent watchmaking scene, but also because what these young talents can achieve is often highly surprising. Today we are taking a look at the Montre d'ecole of Antonin Falk. If you are a regular reader of our magazine, you might remember his jumping hour & retrograde minute watch. Now in his early twenties, Falk just completed a montre d'ecole, a watch he crafted to graduate from his watchmaking school, the Lycee Edgar Faure in Morteau, France. And this watch, in addition to featuring a tourbillon, comes equipped with a very special self-winding mechanism. The briefing for the watch Antonin Falk and his fellow students had to create and craft for their graduation work this year was pretty simple and straightforward. They had to develop and craft, entirely by themselves, an automatic watch using as a base a hand-wound movement, in this inst
Omega Speedmaster History Part 2 - the 1970s editions - Monochrome-Watches
In a previously featured article, we presented you with the premises of the Omega Speedmaster and how it became the ‘Moonwatch’. In addition to bringing us these very famous editions of the classical Speedy, the 1970s were also highly?productive in terms of research and development, with several technical improvements and distinctive?designs added to the collection throughout that decade. You may find these 1970s Omega Speedmasters ‘funky’ and ‘bulky’ (and, indeed, they are bulky) but this is the reason why!The Alaska ProjectThe Omega Speedmaster and NASA have a longstanding and deeply-rooted link. As we explained in the first part of this retrospective, the Speedmaster became the Moonwatch' because of a selection process and not from a joint development between the space agency and the Bienne-based brand. However, these two teamed up a few years afterward to improve the Speedy in a program called the Alaska Project'. And just to clarify, it had noth
Announcing - The MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription
Say what? A MONOCHROME Limited Edition? Well, sort of… For some time (read years), we’ve been playing with the idea of a MONOCHROME limited edition. But we wanted to do things differently. So for starters, our limited edition will be offered as a subscription watch, a Montre de Souscription using the same procedure dreamt up by Mr Breguet to create affordable watches for his clients. For our first one, we turned to one of our favourite indie watchmakers, Habring2.?Habring2 is an independent Austrian watchmaking atelier created by Maria and Richard Habring in 2004. After setting up shop, they slowly but gradually built their collection, their expertise and their own style of watches and complications. Nowadays, Habring2 offers some very nice three-handers like Felix or his sibling Erwin with dead-beat seconds (seconde morte) and the Felix Foudroyante, combining the foudroyante and dead-beat seconds set against a gorgeous salmon-coloured backdrop. There are also chronographs
Citizen Watch Co. and Its Endless Pursuit of Accuracy - Monochrome Watches
Citizen is not a name you often hear at MONOCHROME. We focus almost exclusively on mechanical watches, and most fall into the luxury category. That doesn't mean a brand with the history and scope of Citizen escapes our attention, but the company's bread and butter products generally reside outside of what we cover. However, the most recent Caliber 0200 proves that Citizen knows a thing or two about high-end watchmaking and can produce luxury mechanical pieces with accuracy levels surpassing chronometer standards. Let's take a closer look at this horological juggernaut, its endless pursuit of accuracy and overall mechanical prowess that may surprise a few of you.The Citizen 0100, the most accurate wristwatch in the world.A BRAND FOR THE PEOPLEAlthough founded in 1930, Citizen goes back to 1924 with a pocket watch produced by the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, founded in 1918. Swiss watchmaker Rodolphe Schmid registered the Citizen name in Switzerland in 1918, specifically for watche
