2020 Hermes Arceau Squelette Smoked Dial // Introducing
The elegant asymmetrical Arceau watch by Hermes reveals its openworked mechanical heart through a smoky sapphire crystal on the dial. Following in the footsteps of the former 41mm Arceau Squelette watches, this new model shrinks slightly in size to 40mm and features an intriguing smoked sapphire crystal that gets darker as it reaches the chapter ring. Let’s look at the new Hermes Arceau Squelette.BackgroundThe stirrup-shaped lugs and galloping' slanted Arabic numerals of the Arceau watch take us back to the origins of Hermes that started life in 1837 as a producer of harnesses and saddles in Paris. Equestrian motifs have always been popular at Hermes, one of the oldest family-owned and run luxury companies in France. The distinctive lines of the Arceau were designed by Henri d'Origny in 1978, the celebrated artistic director of Hermes who defined le gout Hermes during his six decades at the Parisian Maison. Perhaps the most famous iteration of the Arceau was the poetic Temps Susp
Watches and Espresso - Monochrome Watches
Last year Robert-Jan from Fratellowatches and Gerard from Horlogeplatform Nederland initiated an informal meeting of local watch enthousiasts. The idea was to make the Watches and Espresso meeting into a returning event in different locations in the neighborhood. Recently we met at a place near the sea, where it was very quiet due to the lousy weather. 8 Fellow watch enthousiasts joined to talk about watches, admire newly aquired watches and discuss the watch industry.TableshotOne of the things has become a returning topic is the size of watches and specifically the very large sized watches. I think most of us think that the BIG hype has gone far enough and it’s time to return to smaller sized watches.Personally i think large watch can be nice, but only for watches with a history of being big. Like the Panerai Luminor Marina and Radiomir models which have always been 45mm or 47mm large, which made sense for the purpuse they where designed for. Also the IWC Big Pilot has large anc
Longines Heritage Military RAF 6B/159 Re-Edition (Specs & Price)
In the past few years, Longines has been quite successful in re-editing some of its most glorious vintage watches. This includes, of course, the Legend Diver, but also the recently launched Skin Diver, the Avigation Big Eye or the Lindbergh watches. Altogether, these create a solid, coherent “Heritage” collection. One of the latest additions is pushing the concept even further… Vintage-inspired and faux-ageing to the max is what you’ll get with the Longines Heritage Military, a re-edition of the RAF-issued 6B/159 watch. Background, the RAF 6B/159 watchLongines is a brand with an important military background and delivered watches to numerous armed forces around the globe. There were pilot’s watches, of course, but also field pieces – more relevant in the present context. Longines was, in fact, part of the twelve brands that manufactured watches for the British Ministry of Defense. Essentially, the Dirty Dozen is a set of military watches - known as WW
Pre SIHH 2015: Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic Skeleton - Specs and Price - Monochrome-Watches
When you think about Roger Dubuis, some marvelous features come to your mind. Together with a spectacular design, massive and easily recognizable, all the creations of the brand are imprinted with a superb finishing level. Every single watch produced by Roger Dubuis is stamped with the rigorous Geneva Seal (Poin?on de Geneve). Another of these multiple features might be skeletonized movements. For the SIHH 2015, the brand introduced new automatic watch, the?Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic Skeleton. We’ve previously seen the amazing work of the manufacture. Flying tourbillon, double flying tourbillon, minute repeater, skeletonized watches (with certainly the craziest and thinnest bridges ever seen)… The list of complications used in Roger Dubuis timepieces is long and impressive. The design might be extreme and slightly showy, we have to admit: Roger Dubuis’ watchmakers are extremely skilled. We’ve experienced such a watch when having some review time with the Pu
