Dont Touch That Dial! 2013s Best in Review! Drive-Time Radio Meets Haute Horology - Monochrome Watches
Here we are in 2014 - looking forward to SIHH and Basel. What better way to prepare for the next wave of horological masterpieces than to revisit the pieces that made us tap our feet and click our fingers (with some interpretive music thrown in!) So, sit back, draw another espresso and click your way through our tongue-in-cheek multi-media (dry cough) presentation as Monochrome-Watches.com looks back at the hits of 2013!Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement L.M.Marillion – The Great Escape Ad - Scroll to continue with article The escapement of the watch is quite rightly considered its heart. The quest for a durable and accurate escapement has marked the progress of the industry since men with names like Graham, Arnold and Breguet were in the headlines. It is fitting that Girard Perrgaux, who were pioneers in the early days of quartz watches take our top-spo
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chrono reviewed - Monochrome Watches
When Omega introduced the new Seamaster Planet Ocean with the new in-house caliber 9300 last year, this was something that really interested me. Omega was so kind to let me review this dive watch with impressive specifications and impressive dimensions. ?It takes a few days or weeks to get a good idea what a watch is really like and how it’s on the wrist. Is it really that big or heavy, does wear comfortable, how is it in different circumstances, is it easy to read the time and how does it perform? I strapped the Seamaster Planet Ocean Chrono on the wrist for six weeks and wrote a review. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotto do it… Ad - Scroll to continue with article When I became interested in watches, the Omega Seamaster ‘James Bond’ was one of the first watches that caught my attention. Together with the Submariner and
Just Because - What Is a Ligne in Watchmaking And Why It is Still used?
While today the world relies mostly on two measurement systems (metric and imperial), things haven’t been always that simple. Each country, each culture, sometimes even each corporation had its own units and ways to measure its commodities or production. And if you're into watchmaking, you might have spotted one of these old units when it comes to measuring a movement, without really knowing what it means, or where it comes from. This unit is the “ligne” and today we tell you what it is and why it even exists. The ligne is an ancient French measure that has become an established member of Swiss watchmaking folklore – Swiss watchmaking has a lot to do with French culture. It is still being used today to denote the measurement of the diameter or the calibre of a movement. A ligne is equivalent to 2.256mm. Conversely, a millimeter equals 0.443 lignes. Its symbol is a triple prime. The ligne is still used in a rather approximative way though by watchmakers. For insta
Exclusive Hands-On - Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept (and yes, it is really very light...) - Monochrome Watches
Last week, we announced to you a very interesting piece from Montblanc, a concept watch made with one single idea in mind: lightness. Indeed, the?Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept is said to weight ONLY 14.88 grams - which, even if difficult to comprehend what it means, is?a serious achievement. Last week we traveled to Switzerland for a series of visits and interviews, including Montblanc, we asked Davide Cerrato, the new head of watches, to bring this watch to us. And here are the very first shots of the?Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept and our impressions of this light-as-a-feather watch strapped on the wrist and of course more details about what it's gonna be in the future. In the press release that Montblanc sent last week, they announced having created an extremely light watch, in fact one of the lightest mechanical?watches ever manufactured: the?Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept, with 14.88 grams. This number alone remains quite
Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Green Dial - Hands-On, Specs & Price
Since its introduction about a year ago, ?the PRX (and specifically the Powermatic 80 automatic model), Tissot’s vision of the 1970s sports watch with integrated bracelet, has been a huge hit. And rightfully so, since it offers the flair of some of the most iconic watches of this genre with a very satisfying execution and a fair price. The PRX Powermatic 80 was initially offered in black, blue or silver with waffle dials?and later in steel-and-gold editions. There’s even a PRX Chronograph now in the collection. But today, Tissot goes back to the classic version and adds a trendy touch of colour, resulting in a version that is bound to be another success, the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Green Dial.?The inaugural PRX Powermatic 80 collection, with silver dial (with PVD gold bezel), and classic black or blue versions.Basically not much has changed compared to the watch we reviewed in March 2021. What made the Tissot PRX a success back then is still very much alive today, with onl
