Hands-On - IWC Big Pilots Watch Perpetual Calendar Steel IW503605
Long the flagship model of IWC's collection of Flieger watches, the Big Pilot's Watch was first paired with the perpetual calendar complication in 2006 as small limited edition runs for two retail partners. Since then, more than 37 versions of this model have been released. Fifteen years after its introduction, the Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar in steel again enters IWC's permanent collection, with the new reference IW503605 and its deep blue dial. The Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar is a striking piece, measuring 46.2 mm in diameter and 15.4mm in thickness. Big is indeed the style here, but far from being an affectation, it is in keeping with the 1940 original, which was oversized due to the pocket watch calibre inside. Legibility was of the utmost import in the original and, even though it is slightly compromised by the perpetual calendar indications, the large dial of the Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar lends itself especially well to the complication. First Look: The Foliot Scubanaut 200, Launching On Kickstarter
Discovering new brands is always a lot of fun, especially when the result is quite surprising and even impressive. Such is the case with one of our latest discoveries, coming straight from the Big Apple. Launching on Kickstarter today, upstart watchmaking company Foliot Watches is determined to make some waves with its second and latest collection, the Scubanaut. Available as both a dive-only Scubanaut 200 and Scubanaut World Diver, we’ll be primarily focusing on the simpler of the two. And as it turns out, Foliot has a few fun and clever surprises up its (neoprene) sleeve!Foliot Watches, as the brand is officially called, was founded in 2022 by Izzy Alsafa, a New York-based software engineer by trade and a passionate watch collector. Like many people, the watch infection came through his father, who acquired a to mark the opening of his first business back in the 1970s. That watch stuck with Izzy ever since and fueled his passion to the point of creating his own brand. Things
The Vacheron Constantin Metiers d'Art Tribute To Explorer Naturalists
Vacheron Constantin has long demonstrated a commitment to perpetuate and encourage the traditional and often rare metiers d’art skills. The brand’s Metiers d’Art watches find their inspiration in art, history, and culture. On the occasion of Watches and Wonders Shanghai 2023, a new chapter in this collection is unveiled with a quartet of limited edition watches in tribute to explorer naturalists. The theme will unmistakably evoke some of the brand’s past metier d’art creations, such as the Mercator, Audubon or Great Explorers series. For this new Metiers d’Art collection, Vacheron Constantin has invited collectors to embark on board the HMS Beagle alongside the most illustrious 19th-century naturalists (including Charles Darwin) as the British ship travelled around the world in the 1830s. The five-year journey and discoveries of the Beagle provided the theme to grace these four watches with compelling historical, botanical or zoological decorations.
