Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon
Originally designed as a time-and-date model when it was introduced in 1972, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has since been offered with countless complications, including the most complex of them all, a grand complication. The tourbillon, an AP speciality is, of course, no stranger to the Royal Oak and was first used in the iconic luxury sports watch in 1997 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this model. Today, the latest evolution is revealed, this time with an automatic flying tourbillon movement, first launched in Code 11.59. Available in three versions, including a surprising titanium edition, here’s the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon 41mm.Looking at the current Royal Oak collection, you’ll notice that there is already a tourbillon model. Yet, this iteration of the RO is hand-wound, features an extra-thin movement and its tourbillon cage has a classic architecture, with bridges front and back. Today, the brand introduces something more modern a
Live Impressions on the New Omega Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond (Specs & Price)
Last week, Omega introduced a new Bond-themed Seamaster Diver 300M, inspired by the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. When we posted this watch on Instagram, the reactions were telling. One comment read: I'm a die-hard Omega fan (own 3) and I do not like this watch. There's 4 colour combo's going on with it. One other comment read: Too much. () Looks like brainstorming in a Kindergarten. So did the comments below the article we published, with press images, right after the watch was presented. As always, it is hard to judge with these images, so we decided to give this watch a second chance, but this time live and on the wrist. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond On Her Majesty's Secret Service was introduced a week ago and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the classic Bond movie it's been named after. Why exactly this movie, I don't know? This Lazenby flick is not exactly the best Bond ever made. Quite the contrary, really. But let’s not get into that for today's
Baltic X A Collected Man MR01 Blue Roulette (Specs & Price)
Talking about a success story, the Baltic MR01 has recently been one of the most discussed and sought-after models on the micro-brand scene. And rightfully so, as with its Calatrava-styled case, its thin micro-rotor movement, its charm-packed vintage design and its accessible price, there was a lot to love… so much that the watch is still in shortage a year after its release. But today is your chance to get one. And not a standard one, but a super-cool limited edition with a vintage roulette-styled, Patek-inspired dial, paying tribute to the early Calatrava 96 story. Be aware (and fast), I’m pretty sure there won’t be enough of these MR01 Blue Roulette for A Collected Man.?Everything in the Baltic X A Collected Man MR01 Blue Roulette screams 1930s/1940s Calatrava, but with the right dosage of modernity to make it cool on the wrist in 2022. Already with the classic editions of the Baltic?MR01, the inspiration was clear; the Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 96. And th
Why I think the Omega CK 859 is the best new Omega of the year.
Usually, when a brand launches one or more new models, or perhaps even an entire collection, they want to generate a bit of buzz. Get the news out with a big bang, creating a splash upon launch that ripples through for a couple of days or even weeks. I sometimes wonder then, why from time to time a novelty is quietly and unexpectedly released. Case in point, the incredibly gorgeous Omega CK 859 Re-edition. No press release, no big campaign, just a devilishly good-looking watch no one saw coming. And to me, it's hands-down the best new Omega we will be seeing this year.I have several reasons why I genuinely believe this is the hottest watch coming from Omega in 2022 and I will happily explain. The backstory of this watch and its release is funny, and a-typical of the industry. It wasn't announced by Omega itself or an affiliated PR agency. It was just there out of the blue. Spotted on social media, we reached out to Omega to find out more and it tested our patience a little. What was go
Horage Tourbillon 1 Sub-10k Swiss In-House Tourbillon Explained
The tourbillon… You've no doubt heard of it (you are a MONOCHROME reader after all), and perhaps you own a few, but why is it such an expensive feature? French for whirlwind, it's actually among the oldest of technical innovations, patented by Breguet in 1801 – although developed several years earlier, around 1795. It's simple in concept, with the balance wheel and escapement mounted inside a rotating cage to counter the forces of gravity. If you're in the market for a Swiss tourbillon (or any outside of the Asian market), you're well into five figures until now. We introduced the accessible Horage Tourbillon 1 last year during development and now have one on the wrist for a proper review. And to understand how the brand managed to make this watch at that price.BackgroundHorage is a relative newcomer to Swiss watchmaking, originating in 2007 when husband and wife founders Andreas Felsl and Tzuyu Huang began discussing their future in Biel/Bienne. Horage (the H is silent) is
