Introducing Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Tiger (Specs & Price)
Unlike our Western tradition of celebrating New Year on a fixed date, the Chinese celebrate the date on the second new Moon after the winter solstice. In 2022, Chinese New Year will fall on the 1st of February and with it a changing of the guard for one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Leaving behind the Year of the Ox, 2022 welcomes the Year of the Tiger, an animal revered in China as the king of all beasts. Since the Year of the Snake in 2013, Chopard has celebrated the Chinese New Year with splendid timepieces dedicated to the zodiac animal and decorated with the ancestral Asian technique of Urushi lacquer. As in past years, the watch selected to host the artwork is the ultra-thin and elegant 39.50mm L.U.C XP in ethical 18k rose gold. The Year of the TigerA recurrent figure in Chinese art, the tiger is associated with courage, confidence, fortune and intelligence. Catalogued in Chopard's Metiers d'Art section, the roaring tiger and the rich background scenery on the dial is h
Introducing the new Batavi Architect Turquoise Blue & Tony Purple
First things first, the watch industry is going a little crazy as Tiffany seems to be all the rage at the moment. Thanks to the Patek Philippe Nautilus with Tiffany dial going through the roof recently, all things closely matching the famous Tiffany Blue seem to skyrocket in attention, and prices. And then we learn about the Batavi Architect Turquoise Blue & Tony Purple. Bad timing? Good timing? Or a bit of both?To make one thing clear from the get-go, the Batavi Architect Tiffany Blue is not a direct result of the popularity of the Tiffany Nautilus mentioned in the intro. It is simply close to impossible to develop and produce a set of new dials and have them assembled and ready to go in such a short amount of time. We're talking about a mere four weeks between that specific Nautilus and this Batavi Architect. So it seems that where Ugur Mamak, the founder of Batavi was right on the money with his Architect last year, he again finds himself in the midst of a storm. Albeit a Tiffan
Introducing: The new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024
Released in 2021, the Chronoscope was a surprising take on the classic Speedmaster, combining a large case, a two-counter dial (usually found in larger versions and racing-oriented models) with a vintage-inspired dial bearing no fewer than three snailed-shaped tracks. Untouched since its presentation, which included steel and bronze-gold versions, the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope collection now expands to celebrate the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics – Omega being, once again, the official timekeeper of the event. And we now have appealing new models with charm and luxury, including references in Moonshine gold. What we’re looking at today are new variations around an existing collection, in order to celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games of Paris 2024, which are set to begin in just 100 days. In short, these new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope models are identical to the classic versions we have reviewed here, only bringing new colours and materials. But as we’ve told on mu
Top 10 Dive Watches of 2020 by MONOCHROME - Buying Guide
Dive watches… are not even a style or a category of watches anymore, but a proper market with its own codes, its icons, its contenders, its specifications and its aficionados. Needless to say that a well-built and nicely designed dive watch is almost a necessity for accessible or luxury watch brands, with only a minority not having its own take on the aquatic timepiece. And I’d go as far as saying that a dive watch is a must in every collection. With this in mind, we couldn’t make our lists of favourite 2020 watches without taking a look at diving-oriented models. From accessible to high-end, from all-time-classics to original takes, from modern to vintage-oriented, here are the 10 dive watches that we think stole the show in 2020.Note: this list is based on our own preferences. Video TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm
The brand had been very clear at the beginning of this year: 2020 will be the year of the Carrera, TAG Heuer’s most emblematic watch. To coincide with the 160th anniversary of the brand, TAG has launched multiple editions of the Carrera, from the ultra-cool vintage-inspired Silver Edition to entirely remodelled core-collection models, such as the sporty 44mm chronograph with ceramic bezel. Today, we review its more classic counterpart, another non-limited and commercially important watch, the sleek and timeless-looking TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm in the video above. The Carrera is a watch that needs no introduction anymore. It is, without a doubt, among the most iconic watches of the industry, and one that gave Heuer and later TAG Heuer their success. With its name inspired by the perilous Carrera Panamericana race, the powerful angular lugs, bi-compax layout and clean, legible design created by Jack Heuer in 1963, the Carrera became the epitome of the sports watch for prof
