Summer is Coming - Our Selection of Sports-Chic Watches (buying guide with prices) - Monochrome Watches
Believe it or not (some of us in Europe still don’t believe in it… US seem better though) but summer is coming. For this reason, you’ll soon have to decide what watch to?bring in your luggage?for holidays (as you probably won’t bring your entire collection). Tough time, probably as difficult for you than it is difficult for your wife to decide what pair of shoes to bring. An easy solution could be a?dive watch but another one, that will probably be even better, is the sports-chic watch, one that is like a SUV – capable of an evening at the club, a nice seaside restaurant moment, a bit of yachting, some relaxing time at the pool… and always with style. Here is our buying guide for the best summer sports-chic watches.Rules of the selection: Price is not a criteria here, just a way to order the watches. A sports-chic watch has to be suitable in every possible situation during summer – and even during winter times, but this is not the point here. Y
First Look: The Montblanc Iced Sea 0 Oxygen Deep 4810 Deep Diver
A deep dive watch from a brand with a name referring to Europe’s highest mountain, specialized in making high-end fountain pens…? Surprising, to say the least. Surely, there’s more to Montblanc than what I just described. Indeed, the brand has long been active in watchmaking, producing appealing dress watches and superb chronographs equipped with Minerva movements. But a deep dive watch, capable of going as deep as the height of the Mont-Blanc mountain? This is new. And that’s not the only thing to know about this Iced Sea 0 Oxygen Deep 4810.After some years of searching itself, producing classic watches with vintage inspiration and high-complications, but also at some point car-inspired models, tourbillons, world-timers and automatons, the brand has, for the past 2 to 3 years, refocussed its collection with a focus on sports watches inspired by mountaineering – with the 1858 collection. In 2022, Montblanc decided to explore new territories, somehow the op
Hands-On - The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver
TAG Heuer is adding a new flavour to the Aquaracer Professional 300 collection with a vibrant orange dial. Just like the latest models introduced last year, the watch was inspired by the reference 844 diver (with an orange dial in this case). The new design in 2021 was more refined than its predecessors, bringing a luxury tool watch for all occasions. The original reference 844 Orange Diver with a tangerine dial was introduced soon after the series launched in 1978 and has since been very popular with collectors. Vibrant orange is nothing new for TAG Heuer divers, but it's a desirable addition to this revamped series.?The stainless steel case is brushed and polished with a 43mm diameter. The 12-sided unidirectional rotating bezel has a black ceramic insert with contrasting white 60-minute Arabic numerals/marks and a detailed 15-minute scale. The triangular marker has Super-LumiNova with a blue glow. The signed crown screws down and is partially guarded by integrated case extensions, an

We did it for? this year, we also did it for?Tudor last year, and we are doing?it again now. Just because we love to play with your nerves and because we also think Tudor watches are kind of cool, here are our predictions for the Tudor Baselworld 2016 Novelties. Time prove us we were not that?bad in predicting: we imagined?the Tudor Pelagos Blue AND the Tudor Black Bay Black two years ago already – and both are now in stores. So, we have no clue if we’ll be as lucky this year but we’re sure that we’d love to see a Tudor Pelagos GMT and a Tudor North Flag Chronograph this year at Baselworld… And keep in mind: these are just predictions!Tudor Baselworld 2016 – The Tudor Pelagos GMT (with in-house movement)You certainly all know the Tudor Pelagos, the professional-oriented piece from the brand, with titanium case, ceramic bezel and 500m water resistance. On the contrary of the Heritage Black Bay, the Pelagos is more modern, more rugged but also more te
Hands-On: The new Citizen Mechanical Day/Date NY4058 is a Perfect Example of a Gateway Mechanical Watch
When you read magazines like MONOCHROME, stepping into the (absolutely fascinating) world of mechanical watchmaking can be frightening. Not only can these watches be hard to understand, filled with complications and complex mechanical devices, but the prices at which most luxury watches are offered generate a “glass ceiling” effect that’s hard to break. There is what we call accessible luxury, of course, but even here, prices are still beyond the reach of many. Enter the so-called “gateway watches,” mechanical timepieces that are genuinely affordable, the kind of watches that can get you hooked and locked in this rabbit hole that’s watch collecting.?There are so many options to consider when it comes to your first mechanical watch, to the watch you buy for yourself or your kids as the first step into the world of mechanical watchmaking. Obviously, what you can put on the table to acquire this first watch is highly personal and will depend on each ind
